Incarnate Word Men, Florida Gulf Coast Women Open with CCSA Lead

The Florida Gulf Coast women’s swimming and diving team is in first place with 189 points after the first day of the 2016 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championship at University of Georgia’s Gabrielson Natatorium.
 
Liberty is second with 179 points and Incarnate Word is third with 169 points.  Georgia Southern is fourth with 163 points, while Gardner-Webb is fifth with 106 points.  Campbell University is in sixth with 98 points and UNC Asheville is in seventh with 94 points.  Behind UNC Asheville is North Florida with 90 points and Howard is ninth with 80 points.  North Carolina A&T and VMI are tied for tenth place with 66 points.
 
In the 200-yard medley relay, FGCU’s A-Team of Elise Haan, Katie Armitage, Fanny Teijonsalo and Katie Latham took the victory with a NCAA B cut time of 1:37.66. Liberty placed second in 1:39.37 followed by Gardner-Webb with a time of 1:42.92.
 
FGCU’s 800-yard freestyle relay A-Team of Elise Haan, Linda Shaw, Barbara Caraballo and Lani Cabrera  claimed first place with a time of 7:13.83. Liberty, once again, placed second with a time of 7:21.70, while Georgia Southern took third place with a time of 7:26.10.
 
Georgia Southern senior Emma Weisel claimed first place in the 3-meter dive with a score 294.90. FGCU’s Mikaila Buening finished second with a score of 264.35, while Incarnate Word’s Kimberly Foster finished third with a score of 243.05.
 
The CCSA Championship will continue with the second day of action on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 10:00 a.m., starting with the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries.  The event finals for day two will start at 6:00 p.m.
