Michigan Men Announce Schedule

The University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team released its 2014-15 competition schedule on Friday (Sept. 5), and it features six meets against Big Ten competition and six total competitions to be held inside Canham Natatorium.

The Wolverines open the season with a two-day meet at Iowa on Oct. 3-4 inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, also the site of this year's Big Ten Championships (Feb. 25-28) and NCAA Championships (March 26-28).

The highlight of the home schedule is a combined men's and women's quad meet with national powerhouses Texas, Indiana and Louisville on Oct. 24-25. Other dual meets include a road tri-meet against Penn State and Virginia (Nov. 7-8), a home tri-meet against Northwestern and Notre Dame (Jan. 10), a home meet against Ohio State (Jan. 24) and a road meet at Michigan State (Feb. 7 in East Lansing, Mich.).

The midseason meet for the majority of the team will come at the U.S. Winter National Championships (Dec. 4-6) in Greensboro, N.C. The divers will attempt to qualify for nationals at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, set for March 12-14, in Columbus, Ohio. Michigan will also host alumni (Nov. 1), First Chance (Feb. 21-22) and Last Chance (March 7) meets.

The Wolverines, winners of four consecutive Big Ten championships and six of the last seven, graduated a large senior class from one year ago but still return a stable of key swimmers. Among them is junior Dylan Bosch (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford College, Sandton), the defending national champion in the 200-yard butterfly, and former Big Ten champions Richard Funk (Edmonton, Alberta/Strathcona), Anders Nielsen (Farum, Denmark) and Bruno Ortiz (Tokyo, Japan/St Mary's International). All four men were NCAA All-Americans last season, along with Peter Brumm (Cornelius, N.C./Hough), Jason Chen (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley), Justin Glanda (Rochester Hills, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) and Vinny Tafuto (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey).
