Tampa Claims Sunshine State Conference Wins Against Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's swimming team picked up a Sunshine State Conference road victory over Florida Tech on Saturday morning.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Tampa Spartans 169, Florida Tech Panthers 92
Location: Panther Aquatic Center | Melbourne, Fla.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Of the 14 men's events, Tampa took first in 11 of the races.

• The team's split the relay races, with FIT winning the opening relay while the Spartans closed out the event with a first-place relay effort.

TOP PERFORMERS:
• In a distance race, Tommy Reminger took the 1,650 Free with a time of 16:26.63. Teammate Nick Tinucci followed at 16:40.03.

• Dominic Russo won the 100 Back, being clocked at 52.11. UT occupied the top three spots as Ethan Harrington (52.45) and Brett Saunders (53.08) were second and third respectively.

• The 100 Breast saw Tampa's Stefano Vrolijk win with a time of 58.37. He would later win the 200 Breast with an effort of 2:09.25.

• Sean Rodney championed the 200 Fly, being timed at 1:52.59.

• Senior Martin Hammer took first in consecutive races, winning both the 50 Free (20.39) and the 100 Free (45.86).

• UT's Caron added a first-place effort in the 100 Fly, being timed at 50.89.

• Saunders won the 200 Back in 1:52.48, and was followed by Harrington (1:53.30) and Russo (1:55.57). Saunders would also win the 200 IM, being clocked at 1:55.38.

• The Spartans also received a first-place time of 4:42.44 by Reminger in the 500 Free.

• In the final event of the meet, Tampa won the 200 Free Relay. A time of 1:22.36 was logged by the team of Hammer, Marc-Olivier Caron, Aaron James and Bryan Mattingly.

UP NEXT:
The Spartans head home to host Saint Leo University in their final home meet of the 2016-17 season.

• The team's split the relay races, with Tampa winning the opening relay while Florida Tech closed out the meet with a first-place relay effort.

TOP PERFORMERS:
• The group of Aubrey Hillborn, McKenzie Street, Sophie Long and Marisa Barton won opened the meet with a 1:48.88 in the 200 Medley Relay.

• The Spartans had a first in the 1,650 Free as Brittany Bayes took the distance event with a time of 17:56.53. She would later win her second event of the day with a 5:14.03 in the 500 Free.

• Izzy Spalding won the 200 Fly with a time of 2:10.73.

• The 50 Free was championed by Barton as her time of 24.28 was the fastest.

• UT's Ali Lombardi was clocked at 2:25.69 in a first-place finish in the 200 Breast.

• After winning a relay race, Long took first in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.66. She was followed by teammates Spalding (1:00.66) and Victoria Horsman (1:01.48). Long would also win the next race, taking the 200 IM in 2:12.36. Street (2:13.23) and Eleanor Johnson (2:19.42) made it three Spartans in the top three.

UP NEXT:
The Spartans head home to host Saint Leo University in their final home meet of the 2016-17 season.
