Lenoir-Rhyne Victorious Against Catawba

Salisbury, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Swimming Team pulled out a 130-128 victory over Catawba in a dual meet Friday night at Johnson Pool as part of the Abernathy Physical Education Center.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior Noah McRea (Hickory, N.C.) won two individual races – the men's 200-yard backstroke (1:57.55) and the men's 400-yard individual medley (4:10.13) – to lead the Bears to the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Jacob Queen (Hickory, N.C.) also earned a victory for the Bears, placing first in the men's 100-yard backstroke (54.57).

Lenoir-Rhyne next competes in the 2017 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships from Wednesday, February 8, through Saturday, February 11, at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Salisbury, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Swimming Team defeated Catawba by a 141-107 score in a dual meet Friday night at Johnson Pool inside the Abernathy Physical Education Center.

Sophomore Alyx Koert (Naples, Fla.) led the Bears to the victory with three first-place finishes on the evening:  the women's 1,000-yard freestyle (11:13.31), the women's 500-yard freestyle (5:34.40) and the women's 200-yard backstroke (2:14.52).

Lenoir-Rhyne also picked up a victory in the women's 400-yard individual medley when freshman Addison Herndon (Greensboro, N.C.) won the event with a time of 4:59.83.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Swimming Team now trains for the 2017 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships which take place from Wednesday, February 8, through Saturday, February 11, at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center in Charlotte, N.C.

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba fell to Lenoir-Rhyne in men's and women's swimming action on Friday night at the Johnson Poll. The Bears men pulled out a two-point win 130-128, while the women topped the Catawba Indians 141-107. Catawba won 21 of the 28 total events.

Federico Borrego Higareda won three individual events for the men and was also part of the winning 400 medley relay. Joao Barreto and Aly Hegazi each won two individual events and were on both relay winning teams, while Mario Zaninovic had two wins and was part of a winning relay.

Emily Najar, Amy Cujas and Cassie Shear all won two individual races for the women and were on both winning relay teams. Jess Daniel and Susanne Reeg had one individual win and were on one of the relay teams.

Higareda won the 100 breast (59.14), 50 free (22.74) and the 200 breast (2:11.05). Barreto took wins in the 200 free (1:44.33) and 100 fly (51.90), while Hegazi claimed the 100 free (48.25) and the 500 free (4:48.88). Zaninovic was first in the 1000 free (10:06.96) and 200 fly (1:58.63).

Najar claimed wins in the 200 free (2:03.18) and 100 free (57.32) with Cujas earning wins in the 100 back (1:02.80) and 50 free (25.46). Shear touched first in the 100 breast (1:09.95) and the 200 breast (2:31.66). Daniel posted a win in the 200 fly (2:21.35), while Reeg took honors in the 100 fly (1:01.44).

Catawba won all four relays. The team of Reeg, Shear, Najar and Cujas opened with a win in the women's 400 medley relay (4:10.15). Cujas, Shear, Daniel and Najar swam to the win in the 400 free relay (3:49.83). Arnold Blohme, Higareda, Barreto and Hegazi swam the men's 400 medley relay (3:36.80) with Hegazi, Blohme, Zaninovic and Barreto taking the 400 free relay (3:13.91.

Catawba will next travel to Barton on Saturday, January 28 to take on the Bulldogs and Randolph Macon.
