The Assumption College women's swimming & diving team defeated No. 22 LIU Post 134-125 on senior day at the Plourde Pool today. The Hounds have now won 16 straight home meets and have not lost at the Plourde since November 18th, 2011.

Prior to the competition, the Hounds recognized six seniors who were swimming in their final collegiate home meet, including Erin Dougherty (Halfmoon, N.Y.), Rachel Gagnon (Tolland, Conn. / Tolland), McKenzie Johnson (Goffstown, N.H. / Goffstown), Rachel Lanam (Sebastian, Fla. / Sebastian River), Tricia Lee (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) and Allie Wuerfl (Wayland, Mass. / Wayland).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Sophomore Shannon Quirk (Wakefield, Mass. / Wakefield Memorial) and junior Niamh Morgan (Bettystown, Ireland / Sacred Heart School) each recorded a pair of individual victories to pace the Hounds on the day. Quirk swam her way to a first place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:39.41, while also claiming the 500 yard freestyle in 5:16.61. Morgan finished first in both the 100 backstroke (1:02.86) and the 200 backstroke (2:12.23), while also finishing in second place in the 400 IM by just a fingertip, clocking in with a time of 4:43.24.

- Junior Bry Veroneau (Belchertown, Mass. / Belchertown) and freshman Kelsey Johnstone (Southwick, Mass. / Westfield) also had a strong day in the pool, as they each registered a pair of second place finishes in individual races, while Veroneau also placed second with the 400 freestyle relay. Veroneau raced to a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:01.98), as well as a second place finish in the 50 freestyle (25.74). Johnstone left her mark on the meet by placing second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.08) and second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.14).

- The Hounds swept the 200 butterfly behind a first place finish by Lanam, who recorded a time of 2:14.46. Freshman Colleen Kurtz (Somerset, N.J. / Rutgers Preparatory) came in second (2:18.76), while sophomore Ali Petrozza (North Andover, Mass. / Austin Preparatory School) placed third in 2:20.63.

- Freshman Sydney LaQue (Burnt Hills, N.Y. / Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) raced to a third place finish in both the 200 backstroke (2:16.09) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:10.90), while classmate Natalia Kaczor (Chicopee, Mass. / Chicopee) came in second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.38. Kaczor was also a member of the 400 freestyle relay that placed second, joining Veroneau, freshman Emma Magna (Niantic, Conn. / East Lyme) and Wuerfl, who completed the race in 3:48.05.

- Wuerfl also finished third in the 100 free (56.55) and anchored the 400 medley relay that placed second in 4:10.94, along with Morgan, sophomore Morgan Nicholls (East London, South Africa / Clarendon) and junior Courtney Barr (Waltham, Mass. / Matignon).

- In the 100 breastroke, freshman Abbey Holmes (Laurel, MD / Archbishop Spalding) and sophomore Mikayla Campbell (Marshfield, Mass. / Marshfield) finished second and third, with times of 1:10.62 and 1:12.99, respectively.
