Paul Powers Shines for Michigan, Indiana Extends Lead After Day 2 of Big Ten Men's Champs

Thursday’s competition was highlighted by four Big Ten Championship records, including an NCAA-leading time of 4:10.63 set by Michigan’s Felix Auböck in the 500-yard freestyle event. Michigan’s Paul Powers became the first Big Ten swimmer to win the 50-yard freestyle in three consecutive years since Olympian Matt Grevers from 2005-07.

The Wolverine touched first in a Big Ten Championship record time of 18.80. Indiana closed out the evening claiming the 400-yard medley relay title with an NCAA A-cut qualifying time of 3:03.28. 

After two days of competition, Indiana leads with 562 points, followed by Michigan with 461.5, Ohio State with 430, Wisconsin with 276 and Minnesota with 262 points.

Competition resumes tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. ET with the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and three-meter diving event. The 200-yard freestyle relay finals will be contested during the evening.
