Nova Southeastern Leads After Day 2 of Sunshine State Conference Champs

Nova Southeastern’s men’s & women’s swimming teams combined to break three Sunshine State Conference Championship meet records and one Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center pool record while five top times were logged on day two.

Top Performances:

The University of Tampa kicked-off the night with the top women’s 200 freestyle relay time of 1:33.81 and Florida Tech carried the good fortunes into the men’s 200 free relay with a time of 1:19.79.

Marco Aldabe knocked-off the first SSC record when he swam a 3:52.44 in the 400 individual medley, besting the previous time by more than two-tenths of a second. Nova Southeastern then completed its hat trick of broken records in the 400 medley relay, where it posted times of 3:44.39 on the women’s side and 3:12.00 for the men. NSU's mark on the in the men's 400 medley relay is also a YMCA Aquatic Center short course record.

Other top times of the night came from Saint Leo’s Natalia Garriock, whose preliminary time of 54.54 in the 100 butterfly beat her own mark. Garriock then claimed first in the finals with a time of 54.71.  NSU’s Thiago Sickert then locked in the top time of the season in the 100 fly (47.65).

Sharks’ swimmers Franco Lupoli (1:37.91) and Emma Wahlstrom (1:47.75) both claimed first in the 200 free while record holder Courtney DeVeny was given a run for her money by Lynn’s Sarah Hughes before winning the 400 IM with a time of 4:21.05.

Nova Southeastern has the top point total on the men’s side with 444 points, followed by Florida Southern at 393 and Florida Tech at 338. The Sharks’ hold a closer advantage on the women’s side 445-408 over Tampa with Florida Southern third at 287.
