Williams Extends Lead at NESCAC Women's Championships

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Williams College maintained a sizeable lead following the completion of day two at the 2017 NESCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship hosted by Bowdoin College.

The Ephs put on a show, winning five individual events and two relays to increase their two-day total to 1,288 points and extend their lead to 280.5 points over second-place Amherst (1007.5). Connecticut College (950.5) vaulted into third place on day two, followed by Bates (842.5) and Middlebury (839) in the top five. Host Bowdoin stands in sixth with 704 points.

Williams' Megan Pierce posted the lone individual meet record on Saturday, winning the 400-yard individual medley in 4:17.02. Other Ephs who took first-place showings included Alison McNamara in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:06.15), Emma Waddell in the 100-yard butterfly (54.14), Caroline White in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.80) and Olivia Jackson in the 100-yard backstroke (55.56).

Middlebury's Isabel Wyer was the only non-Williams victor of the evening, claiming the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:50.85.

Williams opened the session with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:42.24) in a meet-record time courtesy of Caroline Conforti, White, Emma Waddell and Maia Hare. The Ephs then capped the evening with a victory in the 800 freestyle relay in a Greason Pool-record time (7:29.67) thanks to McNamara, Pierce, Madeline Wessell and Lauren Jones.
