Miami Men Smoke Ball State

Miami University men’s swimming and diving team defeated Ball State on Saturday afternoon at the Nixon Aquatic Center by a score of 207.5-89.5.

The RedHawks started off with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Pete Simcox, Hutch Blackstone, Iago Moussalem do Amaral and Lucas Brock clocked in at 1:32.31 for the victory.

Miami went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke. Jake Precious won the event (50.98) with James Wray (51.47) and Max Jelen (53.19) behind him. Precious also won the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.80) and Justin Andrews finished in second (1:56.22).

Brock placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 20.82 seconds. Blackstone took second place with a time of 21.44. Brock was also victorious in the 100-yard freestyle (45.80) with Nick Ward finishing in second place (46.62). Blackstone earned another second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.96) while Steve Russo took third (2:09.24).

Seniors Jack Strauss and Bryan McNamara finished 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle. Strauss touched the wall in 1:43.36 and McNamara in 1:45.15.

Andrews was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle, timing in at 9:50.91. Ross Rybakowicz took third, clocking in at 9:57.46. Andrews also won the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:55.59. Rybakowicz took third in this event as well, touching the wall in 1:58.44.

Moussalem do Amaral took gold in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking in at 1:53.85. Rob Newman took bronze with a time of 1:57.59. The freshman also won the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.88) while McNamara finished in second (4:48.01).

Nicholas Wukovits tied for first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a Ball State swimmer. The pair finished in 57.39. Russo emerged in third place, touching the wall in 57.99.

Jacob Peloquin placed third in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 51.63.

The trio of Sean Sargent, Harrison Moncino and Ryan Nash were successful for the RedHawks, going 1-2-3 in both diving events. Sargent won the one-meter dive (304.87) with Nash (286.64) and Moncino (258.89) in second and third. For the three-meter dive, Moncino won (331.35) and Sargent (316.42) and Nash (309.60) took second and third.

The men ended the meet with Brock, Ward, Blackstone and Strauss emerging victorious in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.60.
