Emory Swims By Queens

Emory clinched a pair of wins against Queens today.

The Emory University Men's Swimming & Diving team opened up the dual meet portion of the 2016-17 season on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the top-ranked and defending Division II National Champions Queens University of Charlotte, 153-109. The Eagles recorded nine event victories and four NCAA B Cut times en route to the victory over the Royals.

Senior Andrew Wilson led all Emory swimmers, touching the wall first in three individual events at the meet. The senior claimed first in the 100 Breast (55.87) and 200 Breast (2:03.00), both NCAA B Cut times, as well as in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.41. Wilson added a first place showing in 400 Medley Relay, teaming with freshman Sage Ono, senior Christian Baker and junior Oliver Smith to record a NCAA B Cut time of 3:20.13.

Also notching event wins for Emory were sophomore Thomas Gordon in the 1000 Free (9:36.99), Ono in the 100 Back (51.22), Smith in the 50 Free (20.51 – NCAA B Cut), Baker in the 500 Free (4:37.13) and the 200 Freestyle Relay quartet of sophomore Trey Kolleck, Smith, junior Alexander Hardwick and senior Hayes Burdette-Sapp (1:23.31).

Other notable finishes for the Eagles on Saturday were junior Henry Copses in the 1000 Free (2nd, 9:40.39), Baker in the 200 Free (2nd, 1:42.50), senior Mitchell Cooper in the 100 Back (2nd, 51.85) and the 200 IM (2nd, 1:54.94), freshman Evan Brock in the 200 Fly (2nd, 1:57.60), Ono in the 200 Back (2nd, 1:53.78), junior Cooper Tollen in the 100 Fly (2nd, 52.03), Kolleck in the 50 Free (3rd, 21.10), Hardwick in the 100 Free (3rd, 46.95), freshman Chandler Vandiford in the 200 Back (3rd, 1:54.51), junior Chandler Lichtefeld in the 200 Breast (3rd, 2:10.39) and Gordon in the 500 Free (3rd, 4:43.38). The Emory B relay foursome of Ono, junior Aaron Schwartz, and sophomores Alex Kohlman and Michael Grenon also added a top-3 finish in the 200 Free Relay to close out the meet for the Eagles, touching with a time of 1:25.79.

The Eagles return to the pool on November 5th as the team hosts Savannah College of Arts and Design at the Madeline Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff PE Center at 2:00 pm.

The Emory University Women's Swimming & Diving team began the dual meet portion of the 2016-17 season on Saturday afternoon, edging out the reigning Division II National Champions Queens University of Charlotte, 136-126, at the Madeline Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff PE Center. The Eagles registered five event victories and four NCAA B Cut times at the meet.

Leading the Eagles was junior Cindy Cheng who posted a pair of individual event wins, touching first in the 100 Back (55.17) and 200 Back (2:01.91), both NCAA B Cut times. Cheng added a second place finish, swimming the first leg of the 400 Medley Relay. The foursome, including sophomore Ashley Daniels, Fiona Muir and senior Marissa Bergh finished with a NCAA B Cut time of 3:50.73.

Muir and Bergh claimed first place finishes as well for the Eagles on Saturday. Muir touched first in the 100 Free with a time 52.13 and Bergh earned the top spot in the 50 Free with a time of 24.20. Both swimmers were also part of the 200 Free Relay that closed out the meet with a first place finish for the Blue and Gold. Muir and Bergh in addition to sophomore Meg Taylor and senior Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe swam a NCAA B Cut time of 1:35.59 to win the event.

Other notable finishes for the Eagles at the meet were junior Ming Ong in the 1000 Free (2nd, 10:34.54), the 500 Free (2nd, 5:05.61) and in the 200 IM (2nd, 2:07.64), Muir in the 200 Free (2nd, 1:52.90), senior Annelise Kowalsky in the 100 Breast (2nd, 1:05.99), in the 200 Breast (2nd, 2:24.38) and in the 200 IM (3rd, 2:10.09), Bergh in the 100 Free (2nd, 53.22), Sanchez-Aizcorbe in the 100 Fly (2nd, 58.02), junior Sia Beasley in the 100 Back (3rd, 58.96) and in the 200 Back (3rd, 2:09.94), Daniels in the 100 Breast (3rd, 1:05.82) and in the 200 Breast (3rd, 2:26.52), freshman Maria Kyle in the 200 Fly (3rd, 2:09.21) and in the 100 Fly (3rd, 58.24) and senior Claire Liu in the 50 Free (3rd, 24.27). The 200 Free Relay B team of Liu, freshman Nadia Riverso, sophomore Hannah Baratz and junior Julia Wawer added a second place finish in the event, touching with a time of 1:36.42.

Emory will be back in action on November 5th as the team hosts Savannah College of Arts and Design at the Madeline Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff PE Center at 2:00 pm.

ATLANTA, Ga. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's swim team fell in a dual meet to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Champions on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Emory tallied 136 points in the meet to just outscore the Royals who secured 126. Queens would see seven first place finishes during the day's events.
 
Hannah Peiffer, Dasha Talanova, Alexandra Marshall, and Kyrie Dobson, respectively, started the day with a win for the Royals as they came into the wall with a time of 3:50.45 in the 400 yard medley relay.
 
The team followed the event with McKenzie Stevens securing first in the 1000 yard freestyle touching with a 10:26.59 for nearly eight seconds over the pool. Kathryn Johnston clocked a 10:36.41 for third in the event.
 
In the 200 yard freestyle, Josefina Lorda-Taylor gave the Royals another first place finish as she clocked a 1:51.40. Stevens would finish third in the event with a 1:53.39.
 
Lorda-Taylor would grab two more first-place finishes during the day's events starting with one in the 200 yard butterfly swimming a 2:07.96 while Amanda Tipton grabbed second in the event with a 2:08.78.
 
Lorda-Taylor also added the 200 yard individual medley to her list going 2:06.71 to claim the event.
 
Talanova swam for a 1:04.82 in the 100 yard breaststroke for a first place finish. She also took first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.20.
 
Stevens tabbed one more individual first place finish during the day's events reaching the wall in a 5:04.17 for the top swim in the 500 yard freestyle. Johnston rounded out the top three touching with a 5:11.23.
 
Peiffer swam a 58.08 in the 100 yard backstroke for a second place finish in addition to grabbing second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 32.68.
 
Dobson placed second in the 50 yard freestyle touching with a 24.23.
 
The women will host Wingate in a dual meet on Saturday, October 29th at 11 a.m., at the Levine Aquatic Center.

ATLANTA, Ga. –The Queens University of Charlotte men’s swim team fell to Emory on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in a dual competition. The Eagles tallied 153 points to take the win as the Royals secured 109 point with four first-place swims in the meet.   
 
The men’s 400 yard medley relay team started the day with a second place finish as Paul Pijulet, Nicholas Arakelian, Dion Dreesens, and Ben Mayes, respectively, finished with a 3:20.26.
 
Dreesens would clock a two second gap in the 200 yard freestyle to claim first. He also grabbed first place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.67. Hector Tricas notched a third place finish in the 200 yard butterfly finishing with a time of 1:57.91.
 
It was a one-two finish in the 100 yard freestyle as Dreesens placed first in the event with a time of 45.63. Ben Mayes took the second place finish reaching the wall at 46.54.
 
Pijulet topped the pool in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.27.
 
Zach Bunner secured the last individual first place finish for the team as he reached the wall in a 51.81 in the 100 yard butterfly.
 
Arakelian immediately followed his swim in the 400 medley relay with the 1000 yard freestyle, taking third in the event with a time of 9:45.10.
 
Taking second and third in the 100 yard breaststroke, respectively, Devyn Hughes swam a 58.91 while Inigo Alarcia swam a 58.96.
 
Mayes found the wall in second during the 50 yard freestyle event. He clocked a 21.02 in the race.
 
In the 200 yard breaststroke, Alarcia touched second finding the wall in a 33.21. Arakelian would also find a second place finish in the meet reaching the wall with a 4:38.16 in the 500 yard freestyle.
 
The day concluded with the men’s 200 yard freestyle relay team of Mayes, Pijulet, Bradford Hancock, and Mitchell Harwood, respectively, claiming second place with a time of 1:24.10.
 
The team will head to Wingate on October 28th, for a dual meet against the Bulldogs starting at 5 p.m.
