Eastern Illinois, IUPUI, Butler Battle in Indy

Eastern Illinois, IUPUI and Butler battled in Indianapolis on Friday night.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Eastern Illinois men’s & women’s swimming teams opened up their 2016-17 seasons at IUPUI. The men went head-to-head with IUPUI while the women faced both IUPUI and Butler. The men fell short in their matchup as IUPUI won 133-66. The women earned a split as they defeated Butler 150-55, but were topped by IUPUI 142-61.

The men’s unit had a strong showing all throughout the meet. The Panthers placed the top three swimmers in the 200-Breast and the top two relay teams in the 200-Free. In the 200-Breast, Matt Jacobs posted the top time at 2:09.06. Brandon Robbins finished not far behind at 2:10.77 with Colin Frazee rounding out the list in third at 2:25.46. Robbins also earned a second place finish in the 200-Free with his time of 1:48.20. Brogan O’Doherty took home second place honors in the 200-Back as he touched the wall at 2:02.14. Patrick Wood, Logan Long, Shamus Shields, and Tyler Parrish teamed up in the 200-Free relay and earned first place in the event with a time of 1:31.98. Patrick Stingle, Ben Pitlock, Jason Manning, and Alex Laleian also joined up in the same even and finished in second place as they ended the relay with a time of 1:34.64.

Danielle DiMatteo and Lauren Oostman were the top finishers for the EIU women as both swimmers earned second place finishes in their respective events. DiMatteo finished the 100-Free at 54.33 and Oostman ended the 200-Back at 2:06.57. DiMatteo also picked up a third place finish in the 50-Free (25.40). DiMatteo and Oostman paired up with Rachel Mandersheid and Martee Grainger in the 400-Medley Relay as the four touched the wall in third place with a time of 4:03.33.
