FIU Press Release

HOUSTON, Texas (Oct. 15, 2016) – The FIU swimming and diving team completed a three-meet sweep of this year's Dual-A-Palooza with a 119.50-85.50 win over Denver on Saturday afternoon from the Rice Competition Pool.

"I'm extremely impressed with our team this weekend," Head Coach Randy Horner said. "We showed up all three meets and competed well.  All three teams here this weekend are solid teams that we respect a great deal.  To go 3-0 is a great accomplishment for our team."

FIU jumped out to a 13-4 lead, taking first and third place in the 100 Medley Relay. The team of Jennifer Alfani, Taylor Grabenhorst, Jennifer Deist and Ally Mayhew took the top spot with a time of 48.32.

Kyna Pereira claimed first in the 100 Free, sporting a time of 10:03.81 to remain perfect in the distance events for the Panthers this season.

"Kyna just completed the best weekend of swims I've experienced as a coach," Horner said. "She not only went undefeated, but did it in demanding events.  She capped the week with a 50.5 split to anchor our 400 free relay to put the meet away versus Denver.  She did it all this weekend."

After Denver cut FIU's lead to 28.50-26.50, the Panthers used a strong outing in the 50 Free to take a 44.50-29.50 advantage. FIU took the top three spots as Naomi Ruele (23.75) claimed first, Letizia Bertelli (24.04) took second and Alfani (24.34) took third.

Denver hung around until FIU put the meet out of reach in the 400 Free Relay. The Panthers out-scored the Pioneers, 13-4, led by the team of Bertelli, Megan Bowen, Ruele and Pereira which registered a first-place time of 3:26.54.

Once again the FIU divers made a clean sweep of the 3-meter program as Rebecca Quesnel (273.91), Brooke Bouchard (258.05) and Brittany Haskell (253, 15) took first, second and third, respectively.

FIU will next host the FIU Tri-Meet on Friday, Oct. 21. The meet is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. from the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
