Colorado State raced to a victory against Omaha on Friday night.

Colorado State Press Release

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams swimming & diving squad got its 2016-17 campaign started off well, beating the visiting Omaha Mavericks, 168.5-88.5, in a dual meet at Moby Pool on Friday evening.

The Rams (1-0) excelled in a variety of events, and the four different Rams played a role in three victories each for the home squad.

CSU got the night started off with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Haley Rowley, Jenna Beaury, Karin Roh and Katie Kickligher combined for the win with a time of 1:47.95, winning by just over two seconds. The Rams swept the top three spots in the first individual event, with Ida Donohue winning the 500 Free (5:13.28), followed by Georgia Young (in her CSU debut) and Gabby Morley.

Both Beaury and Rowley won two individual events. Beaury swept the 100 and 200 Breast, while Rowley took the 100 and 200 Back. Roh and Kicklighter were each victorious in two relays – the 200 Medley and 200 Free relays.

Nicole Sisco got her first collegiate diving win, posting the top 3 meter score (245.10). Emily Williams finished second with 230.25.

Teagan Griffith won the 200 Free by nearly two seconds over teammate Kicklighter, and Marie Goodwyn impressed in her CSU debut with the top time in the 200 IM (2:10.53).

IN THEIR WORDS…
“The energy was high. There was a lot of support. I saw kids racing and attacking their races early, which is important. The divers were throwing a lot of dives into their routine, and I was pleased with their performance. I feel good about them coming together as a team. Racing each other and pushing each other, and supporting each other at the same time. If that’s the attitude we are going to have all season, we will only get better.” – Head Coach Woody Woodard’s general thoughts on the meet

“We’re going to go up against one of the best teams in the nation next week at Denver. It’s teaching them it’s not about wins or losses, but knowing how you can get better and helping you step it up and analyze your races. We’re happy with where we are at and now we are looking towards our next meet.” – Woodard on what the result means, and looking ahead

“It’s great to see. Marie getting a top time in her first college meet was a huge shot in the arm for her. Haley does what Haley does, which is race. She’d be the first to come out and tell you that she could improve in certain areas, but at the end of the day she puts up wins. That’s going to be critical for us down the stretch.” – Woodard on the positive results from newcomers Haley Rowley and Marie Goodwyn

STAT OF THE DAY…
7.63 – Haley Rowley, a sophomore transfer from Purdue making her CSU debut, won the 200 Back by 7.63 seconds (2:02.17).
