Thornton Removed at Stevens

Stevens swimmers are not happy with the departure of Thornton

Brad Thornton has stepped aside as head coach of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s and women’s swimming programs. Thornton led the Ducks to a fourth straight men's Empire 8 Conference Championship in February. The women had been runners-up for the past two seasons.

Thornton was escorted off the Hoboken campus on Wednesday and Lindsay DeLaRosby was elevated to the position of Interim Head Coach.  Efforts to reach Thornton, DeLaRosby and Athletic Director Russell Rogers have been unsuccessful.  Athletes on the team have expressed frustration and confusion at the decision.

DeLaRosby, a highly sought after cantidate for head coaching positions, now finds herself at the helm of what has become one of the nation's elite Division III programs.  DeLaRosby has spent the past four years with the Ducks.  Prior to that she had served as an assistant at Gustavus Adolphus College, Springfield College, Trinity College and head coach at Ferrum.

Thornton came to Stevens for the 2008-09 season and was a key part in turning both teams into national powers, serving as the top assistant coach, associate head coach and interim head coach before being promoted to head coach.
