The Saint Michael's women and Clarkson men topped the North Country Invitational on Saturday.

POTSDAM, N.Y. - For the second time in three years, the Saint Michael's College women's swimming & diving team won the State University of New York at Potsdam's North Country Invitational, as the two-day meet wrapped up on Saturday in Maxcy Hall Pool. The Purple Knight men placed second for the second straight year, as the Purple and Gold squads concluded their first-semester slate and will rest until returning to action on Jan. 14.
The Saint Michael's women totaled 572 points in the five-team field to outdistance the second-place hosts by 157, and the men notched 337 in a six-school meet to push past their nearest two competitors, Monroe Community College (301) and SUNY Potsdam (298). Clarkson University won with 668 points.
Senior Lindsay McNall (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) and first-year Lauren Giampietro (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) both won twice for the women, who fell four points short of the North Country Invitational title last year, taking third, and notched runner-up placements in 2012 and 2013. McNall, who increased her career victories total to 91 during the weekend, went 3-for-3 in individual races at the meet by winning the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.51) by 3.79 seconds and joining Giampietro on the top 200-yard medley relay (1:55.48). Giampietro also won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.47), edging the next finisher by 0.16 seconds.
Junior Theresa Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) and first-year Sarah White (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet Regional) also swam legs for the winning 200 medley relay, and junior Genevieve Gigandet (Groveland, Mass./Central Catholic) won the one-meter dive (164.45). During the 400 free relay, McNall, senior Katrina Wiesner (Bow, N.H./Bow), junior Ally Fischang (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) and sophomore Patty Kohn (Weston, Conn./Greenwich) placed second by just 0.47 seconds after McNall, the anchor, had entered the pool with her foursome trailing by 1.84 ticks.
Murphy was second in the 200-yard butterfly while junior Coral Santos (Pawtucket, R.I./Saint Raphael Academy) took fourth, and Kohn was third in both the 100 back and 200 free. During the 100 back, junior Sammy Sidorakis (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) was fifth, besting White by just 0.17 seconds. Murphy, White, sophomore Elizabeth Doherty (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and first-year Reiley Adelson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) took third in the 400 free relay, while Fischang and Wiesner were fourth and fifth, respectively, during the 100 free. Doherty, Fischang, Kohn and senior Cymantha Rogers (Swampscott, Mass./Swampscott) added a fifth-place 200 medley relay finish.
Sitting in third place after day one on Friday, the men overcame a 15.5-point deficit to Monroe Community College to take second. Junior Spencer Ralston (Hebron, Conn./Cushing Academy) won the 1,650 free (18:37.69) by 36.89 seconds and also led off for the third-place 400 free relay, joining senior Ryan Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham), sophomore Pat Thornton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) and first-year Connor Hopkins (Windham, N.H./Windham). Hopkins tied for second in the 100 free, trailing the winner by 0.13 seconds, and nabbed the runner-up position during the 100 back.
Thornton claimed second in the 200 free, falling shy of first place by 0.20 ticks, while Ralston was seventh and Butler 10th. First-year Aidan Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) placed third in the 200 fly while joining Hopkins, Thornton and sophomore Seamus Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) to occupy fourth in the 200 medley relay. First-year Brian Cavanaugh (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) was third in the 400-yard individual medley while placing seventh in the 200 breast, trailing the sixth-place Seamus Butler by one spot.
Junior Tim Kinville (Colchester, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) held sixth place in the three-meter diving event, classmate Michael May (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) took seventh in the 400 IM and ninth in the 200 breast, while senior Sean Glasheen (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) placed eighth in the 400 IM and ninth in the 200 fly.
