Evansville Downs Eastern Illinois in Charleston

Evansville claimed a pair of dual meets against Eastern Illinois on Friday.

CHARLESTON, Ill. – In their final tune-up before the midseason House of Champions Meet, the Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s swimming teams welcomed Evansville to Padovan Pool on Friday night. The Panthers competed close, but Evansville came away with a pair of victories. The Evansville men and women won by scores of 115-90 and 145-59 respectively. The Eastern Illinois swimming units will return to action next weekend at the annual House of Champions hosted by IUPUI on Nov. 18-20.

During the meet, the Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s swimming teams earned a combined 13 top-2 finishes.

Matt Jacobs highlighted the top finishes as he broke his own Padovan Pool record in the 100-Breast he set last weekend against Valparaiso as he finished in first at 57.36 to improve his record time.  Jacobs followed that up with another first place finish in the 100-IM (54.95).

Brogan O’Doherty picked up the final individual first place finish for the EIU men as he earned his in the 100-Free with a time of 51.18.

Jennings Soccorso-McCoy and Bryan McPherson each earned a second place finish in their respective events. Soccorso-McCoy earned his in the 200-Free at 1:45.64 while McPherson earned his in the 100-Free at 48.54.

The EIU men swept the relay events as they earned a first place finish in both the 200-Medley Relay and the 200-Free Relay. Patrick Wood, Brandon Robbins, O’Doherty, and Jacobs raced finished with the top time in the 200-Medley relay at 1:36.30. Nick Harkins, Logan Long, McPherson, and O’Doherty touched the wall first in the 200-Free Relay at 1:28.05.

Danielle DiMatteo and Lauren Oostman picked up a first place finish each to pace the EIU women. DiMatteo blew past the competition in the 100-Fly with her time of 59.08. Oostman touched the wall first in the 100-Back at 58.67.

Kailey Adcock and Martee Grainger earned second place honors in their respective events. Adcock earned hers in the 500-Free (5:22.88) while Grainger earned hers in the 200-Free (2:01.61).

The EIU women finished in second place in both relay events. Rachel Manderscheid, Oostman, DiMatteo, and Grainger finished second in the 200-Medley Relay with their time of 1:52.21. Julia Martin, Adcock, DiMatteo, and Oostman posted a second place finish in the 200-Free Relay with a time of 1:43.37.
