Bryant, Central Connecticut, Wagner Compete in Connecticut

Bryant, Central Connecticut and Wagner competed on Saturday afternoon in New Britain, Conn.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Kelci Abernethy (Chandler, Ariz.) won the 3 meter dive as the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition against Central Connecticut and Wagner on Saturday afternoon in New Britain, Conn.

The Bulldogs fell to the Blue Devils 250-103 and they lost to the Seahawks 208-145. The tri-meet featured the top three teams in the Northeast Conference preseason coaches poll.

A day after finishing second in the 1 meter dive, Abernethy won the 3 meter with a score of 259.15. Ann Burdick (Glenmont, N.Y.) finished second in the event with a score of 246.95. In all, the Bulldog divers outscored CCSU, 24-13, and Wagner, 33-5.

Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) and Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) finished 3-4 in the 200 back and Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) and Alyssa DiFiore (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished 3-4 in the 500 free. Salzano posted a time of 2:07.50 and Scifo posted a time of 2:10.45. Daly posted a time of 5:14.25 and DiFiore finished with a time of 5:18.09.

Bryant's 200 medley relay also had a strong showing, finishing second. Salzano was joined by Eliza Brant (Hauppauge, N.Y.), Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) and Kayleigh Canavan (Cumberland, R.I.). The quartet finished the event with a time of 1:52.42.

The Bulldogs are back in action next Saturday when they compete in a tri-meet against Brown and MIT in Providence.
