Westminster Tangles With Allegheny

Westminster split a pair of dual meets with Allegheny on Saturday afternoon.

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams split their dual meet at Allegheny College on Saturday.
 
The Titan women’s team (2-0) won 154-140, while the Titan men’s team (1-1) lost, 136-126.
 
For the women’s team, first-year Abby Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch) won three individual events and was part of a winning relay. Jones won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.65), the 200 breaststroke (2:36.45), and the 200 IM (2:20.54). She was also the second leg of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:55.85). Junior Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park), first-year Nicole Stengel (Pittsburgh, PA / Carlynton), and sophomore Carolyn Novak (Pittsburgh, PA / Upper St. Clair) completed the quartet. Douds also won the 100 butterfly (1:01.58) and the 200 butterfly (2:18.03).
 
Senior Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) also earned a pair of wins as she placed first in the 1,000 freestyle (11:14.31) and the 500 freestyle (5:29.70).
 
For the men’s team, sophomore David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) won the 100 backstroke (54.92) and the 200 backstroke (2:02.07).  Peffer was also the third leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:16.84). Sophomore Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield), junior Scott Morosetti (Pittsburgh, PA / South Park), and junior Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) completed the foursome.           
 
Stahara also won the 200 freestyle (1:45.92), while first-year Aaron Dunlany (Boardman, OH / Boardman) touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:07.57).    
 
Westminster is back in the pool, Saturday, November 12 at home against The College of Wooster with a 1 p.m. start time.
