Frankllin & Marshall Men
Franklin & Marshall used a consistent team effort at day two of the Centennial Conference (CC) Championships to hold onto fourth place with 331.5 points. Gettysburg leads at the end of the fourth session with 470 points, while Swarthmore is in second with 450 and Washington occupies third with 394.5.
Daniel Sanders led a strong F&M contingent in the 100-yard butterfly, taking fourth with a time of 51.23 while Richard Perry claimed sixth in 51.41. David Burton (10th, 52.45) and Cody Kalinowski (14th, 52.87) represented the Diplomats in the B final.
Eric Lang turned in another strong effort in the 400-yard IM after winning last night's 200-yard IM, taking fourth in the 400-yard edition with a time of 4:08.95. Lang was joined in the finals by Patrick Greaney, who took seventh in 4:15.92, while Jordan Alter took 11th overall with a time of 4:19.35.
Ryan Caffrey was the lone Diplomat representative in the 100-yard breaststroke, but his time of 57.80 was good for fifth place and a spot on the podium. Timothy Gould was the lone F&M hope in the 100-yard backstroke, rallying to take seventh with a time of 52.95.
The Diplomats got plenty of point production from the relays as well. In the 200-yard medley relay, Gould, Caffrey, Kalinowski, and Sanders teamed up to claim fourth with a time of 1:35.46. They were followed by the team of Lang, Jack Currie, Tyler Zlupko, and Keith Kamons, taking 13th in 1:37.74.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Perry, Sanders, Greaney, and Lang teamed up to take fifth with a time of 7:03.97.
Franklin & Marshall Women
Melissa Mullin's victory in the 400-yard IM helped Franklin & Marshall keep pace at day two of the Centennial Conference (CC) Swimming Championships, as the Diplomats finish the day in third place with 345.5 points. Ursinus occupies first place with 561 while Gettysburg holds second with 450.
Mullin picked up right where she left off in the morning session after posting the fastest qualifying time of this morning's 400-yard IM preliminaries. The sophomore repeated the feat in the finals, clocking a time of 4:32.95 to win by more than a second and earn an NCAA B cut. Rebecca McCain's time of 4:55.56 was good for 15th in the same event.
Anna Hess led the way in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a time of 59.05 to take fourth. Courtney Collins took sixth with a time of 1:00.63, while Taylor Mateja took 12th with 1:01.06.
Becca Meyers led a horde of Diplomats in the 200-yard freestyle, taking sixth with a time of 1:55.78. Grace Pereles took 10th overall with a time of 1:57.45 just ahead of Leeza Rojas in 11th at 1:58.84. Breann Cavanagh and Diane Wagner also competed in the consolation final, taking 15th and 16th, respectively.
F&M also got quality performances in the relays. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Hess, Mullin, Pereles, and Jillian Albus took fourth with a time of 1:49.68. Mateja, Michelle Wall, Kellen McDonald, and Wagner took 12th overall after finishing in 1:51.78.
The Diplomats also took fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay as the team of Collins, Meyers, Rojas, and Pereles posted a time of 7:51.98. Mullin, McDonald, Wagner, and Cavanagh recorded a time of 8:06.47 to take 11th.
The final day of competition of kicks off tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. That session will comprise of preliminaries in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, and timed finals of the 1650-yard freestyle.
