Bryant Tops Holy Cross

The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team received a pair of first-place finishes from Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) and Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.), and won all but one event in a convincing 218-65 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday in Worcester.

In the final dual meet of the season, 11 different Bulldogs won an event for the Black and Gold.

Daly and Schauer led the way in the free events and the backstroke for the Bulldogs. Daly won the 200 free with a time of 1:58.94 and the 500 free with a time of 5:22.05. Schauer won both the 100 and 200 back with times of 1:00.10 and 2:13.70, respectively.

Bryant also swept both the 100 and 200 back events. Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) and Caitlin Hanahoe (Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished 2-3 in the 100, while Hanahoe and Maisey Kent went 2-3 in the 200.

The Bulldogs also received first-place swims from Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.), Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.), Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico), Samantha Hilton (Fairfield, Conn.), Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.), Kirk, Allison Yennaco (Londonderry, N.H.) and Kailey Frye (Lakeville, Mass.).

Messina won the 100 breast (1:10.04), Schaefer won the 200 fly (2:14.77), Chan won the 50 free (25.71), Watson won the 100 free (55.58), Hilton won the 200 breast (2:31.60), Yu won the 100 fly (1:02.52), Kirk won the 200 IM (2:15.03), Yennaco won the 1 meter dive (189.83) and Frye won the 3 meter dive (186.14).

Bryant captured both relay events on Saturday as well. Watson, Hilton, Schaefer and Yu won the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:06.85, while Yu, Chan, Kirk and Mara Valenzuela (Bridgewater, N.J.) won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41.74.

The Bulldogs will compete in the UConn Invitational next weekend in their final tune-up before the Northeast Conference Championships.
