Emmanuel Sweeps Life, Warren Wilson; Splits with King

The Emmanuel College men's swimming team continued their season with a solid performance at the Emmanuel College Quad Meet on Saturday. The Lion’s went 2-0 on the day, defeating King University 110-81 and Warren Wilson College 124-50.

The 200 yard medley relay team (Reichenbach, Rowe, Johnson, Fountain) started the day with a time of 1:45.03 for first place.  David Rabern followed with a first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle, posting a time of 12:33.53, while Santiago Aguilar finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:53.01).

In the 200 yard individual medley, Andrew Reichenbach finished in 2:06.56 to take first. Santiago Aguilar took first in the 100 yard butterfly (53.05) and the 100 backstroke (58.67).

Wyatt Nicholson finished third in the 500 yard freestyle with a personal best time of 5:33.58. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Andrew Reichenbach earned first with a time of 1:02.77 and Clement Rowe finished the same event with a time of 1:06.69 for third. The 200 yard freestyle relay team (Farley, Howe, Dunlap, Estabrooks) capped the meet by taking second with a time of 1:58.86.

Coach Gilchrest commented; “It was so great to have the EC community cheering our student-athletes on at our first home meet of the season. The men are working together as a team to achieve their goals, it is paying off, with a 4-0 record so far this season.”  

Emmanuel will be in action again on Friday and Saturday when they travel to the Sewanee Invitational.

 

The Emmanuel College women's swimming team continued their season with a solid performance at the Emmanuel College Quad Meet on Saturday. The Lady Lions went 2-1 on the day, defeating Life University 105-49 and Warren Wilson College 112-60, but fell to King University in a close meet 93-86.

The 200 yard medley relay team (Whitaker, Tamblyn, Gonzalez, Wright) started the day with a time of 2:03.61 for a second place finish. Sarah Curtright followed with a second place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle (14:45.93) and Stephanie Canady posted a time of 15:01.86 for third. While Diana Tobo finished first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:01.70).

In the 50 yard free, Paisley Whitaker finished in 27.56 to take third. While Curtright and Canady took fourth and fifth in the 200 yard Individual Medley, respectively. Laura Gonzalez finished first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.11. Paisley Whitaker finished fourth in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.82, while Diana Tobo had a first place finish with a 100 yard backstroke time of 1:02.03.

Laura Gonzalez finished second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:50.82 while Diana Tobo took first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.99.

Coach Gilchrest commented; “I am so proud of our Ladies team. They are competing as a team, swimming in any event they are asked, to try and help the team win. The ladies are continuing to improve in practice and it is showing in competition. Also, this was Justine Wright’s final home meet of her collegiate swimming career, it was so great to watch her swim and cheer her on.”
