Florida Gulf Coast women won the 2013 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at the University of Georgia Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Eagles picked up a total of 712 points, earning its fifth consecutive CCSA Championship title.
Liberty followed with 609 points, while Georgia Southern took third with a score of 482.5. College of Charleston placed fourth with 353.5 points and in fifth with 349 points was Gardner-Webb. North Florida took sixth-place with 330.5 points, while Davidson followed in seventh with 262 points and Campbell in eighth with 236.5 points. UNC Asheville placed ninth with 135 points and Radford was 10th with 117 points. Rounding out the field was Howard with 84 points, VMI with 47 points and North Carolina A&T with 44 points.
Campbell’s Kylie Warne won the 1650-free with a time of 16:51.53, while Galen Broido (UNC Asheville) placed second with a time of 17:06.68 and Kylee Parsons (FGCU) finished third with a time of 17:10.78.
The top three finishers in the 200-back were FGCU’s Jennifer Morgan (1:57.83), Liberty’s Emily Duff (1:58.30) and FGCU’s Karen Vilario (1:58.61). All three women qualified for NCAA “B” cuts.
Emma Svensson (FGCU) won the 100-free with a time of 49.55, while Brye Ravettine (Liberty) finished second with a time of 49.80. Both swimmers made NCAA “B” Cuts. Coming in third was College of Charleston’s Sarah Graif with a time of 50.28.
Liberty’s Emilie Kaufman and Laura Day finished first and second in the 200-breast, recording times of 2:15.00 and 2:17.17, respectively. Charity Byrum of Gardner-Webb finished third with a time of 2:17.90.
In the 200-fly, Liberty freshman Jess Reinhardt’s time of 2:00.41 set a meet and Conference record. Finishing in second-place was teammate Bethany Wakeley with a time of 2:01.93 and Eva Lehtonen (FGCU) finished third with a time of 2:02.98.
FGCU’s Maegan Butler set a meet record in the 3-meter diving event, recording a 314.75 in the finals. Sara Meisenhelder (Georgia Southern) finished second with 272.00 points and teammate Emma Weisel garnered third with a score of 268.00.
Reinhardt took home Most Outstanding Freshman Performer of the Meet. She placed first in the 200-fly and 100-fly, setting meet and Conference records in both events and earning NCAA “B” cuts for her performances.
Svensson won Most Outstanding Female Performer of the Meet, winning the 50-free, 100-free and 100-back events. Her times in the 50-free and 100-free qualified for NCAA “B” cuts. She was a member of the 200-medley relay that set a meet and Conference record and qualified for NCAA “B” cuts, and anchored the 400-medley relay that finished first.
Butler garnered Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet for the second consecutive year. Butler won both the 1-meter and 3-meter board, and set a meet record in the 3-meter event.
FGCU head coach Neil Studd (6th season) won Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year for the third time, while first-year diving coach David Boyko (FGCU) took home Women’s Diving Coach of the Year.
