Utah Swept by Denver

The University of Utah swimming and diving teams were topped this evening by the Denver Pioneers. The Ute men lost by a score of 185-115, and the women dropped a closely contested meet, 159-141. 

Utah Men

On the board, Amanda Casillas took first in both the one-meter (288.23) and the three-meter (297.45) diving events. Madison Cock took second on the three-meter with 254.10 points. 

In relay action, the team of Megan Kawaguchi, Genevieve Robertson, Jenna Marsh and Gillian St. John joined together to take second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:44.02.

Robertson took first in the 200 breast (2:16.22) for the second-consecutive week, and then took second in the 100 breast (1:04.14). She has qualified for the NCAA’s in both events. Kawaguchi grabbed a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 back (56.14) and 200 back (2:04.88). 

Jordan Anderson just missed the top mark in the 200 fly as she touched in at 2:05.36. She would later come in third in the 500 free (5:08.34). In the 200 free, Dorien Butter came in second with a time of 1:53.38. Butter later took first in the 100 free (51.96) with St. John following her with a time of 52.00. Butter has won three events this season, all within the last two weeks.

In the 50 free, St. John finished in the top three with a time of 23.91. Darby Wayner (57.97), Jenna Marsh (58.37) and Sydney Bull (59.02) all finished in the top five in the 100 fly. 

Brianna Francis took third in the 200 IM as she touched in at 2:06.34. Kat Wickham (10:46.98), Isabella Kearns (10:54.30) and Maudee Miner (11:05.26) finished fourth through sixth in the 1,000 free.  

The women are back in action on Sat., Feb.  13 when they host Washington State. It will be Senior Day for the Utes with the meet starting at 11 a.m.

Utah Women

In diving action, Jacob Crayne and Connor Cain took the top two spots in the both the one-meter and three-meter events. Crayne scored 341.03 on the one-meter and 331.50 on the three-meter, with Cain scoring 279.15 and 322.28. 

Paul Unger took top-honors in the 100 back (48.63) as well as the 100 fly (49.35). It was the second time this season, that he completed the double in the event (at Wyoming). Brandon Deckard also competed in the 100 back, taking third with a time of 50.87.  

Taking second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:30.79 was a team of  Unger, Jack Burton, Kristian Kron and Sean Bloore.

Just missing the top spot in the 1,000 free was Kron who touched in at 9:26.21. Peter Kotson followed in third (9:37.25). Kron would later take first in the 200 IM (1:51.99) and also took second in the 200 back (1:48.43). It was his sixth win of the season and second in the 200 IM (at Stanford).

Keanu Interone took second in the 100 breast (57.02) and Ben Scott was also a runner-up in the 200 fly (1:51.72). Bloore would later take second in the 50 free (21.30) and third in the 100 free (46.45). 

In the 200 breast, Ganem Tebet (2:05.89) and Nolan Rogers (2:06.11) finished in the top three. Daniel McArthur took fourth in the 200 free (1:42.46) with Brendan Nguyen (1:42.50) and Evan Indahl (1:44.31) following him to the wall. 

The men are back in action on Sat., Feb. 20 when they host USC. It will be Senior Day for the Utes with the meet starting at 2 p.m.
