Vermont Beats Siena

A pair of relay records fell on Saturday afternoon as the Vermont women's swimming & diving team registered a 180-110 victory over Siena at Forbush Natatorium in the Catamounts' first home meet of the season. UVM improves to 2-2-0 on the season.

A new freshman record was established in the 400 yard medley relay as Dani Rocheleau, Haley Gula, Julia DeGregorio, and Audrey Shenkin finished in 3:58.86. UVM's team of Elena Melloni, Shannon Cowley, Courtney Gray, and Christa Weaver won the event in 3:55.77.

Vermont also set a new pool record in the 200 freestyle relay as Sarah Mantz, Gray, Kira Hancock, and Weaver posted a time of 1:36.83.

For the third straight week, Maggie Preston won both diving events for the Catamounts. The senior claimed the 1-meter event with a score of 255.82 and won the 3-meter event with a total score of 229.72.

Kelly Lennon and Lauren Punger each posted a pair of individual victories for UVM. Lennon took the 200 yard freestyle with her time of 1:53.75 and posted the fastest time (5:10.83) in the 500 free. Punger was victorious in both the 100 butterfly (59.28) and the 200 fly (2:08.16).

Gray (1:00.14) and Melloni (1:00.72) finished back-to-back in first and second in the 100 yard backstroke, while Gula won the 200 breaststroke by more than three seconds in 2:27.99.

Weaver won the 50 yard freestyle in 24.23 and Mantz claimed the 100 free in 52.74. In the distance event, Madeline Blumenfeld was the winner of the 1000 free with a time of 10:44.25.

Vermont returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 7 when it hosts America East rival Maine at 12 p.m. at Forbush Natatorium. The meet will be streamed live for free at AmericaEast.TV. The Black Bears beat Rhode Island by a score of 180-118 in their season opener on Saturday in Orono, Maine.
