Hollins Sweeps Greensboro, Guilford

After a pair of top five finishes to start the season in "Invitational" style meets, the Hollins swim team hosted Greensboro and Guilford in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon.  Hollins bested both Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) swim foes when they cruised past the Quakers, 106-52, while just out finishing the Pride, 81-79.

Hollins got the meet off to a great start when they finished 1,2 in the 200 Medley Relay.  The team of Debra Henke (Glen Allen, VA),Claire Webber (Blauvelt, NY), Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA) and Maya Schattgen (Fredericksburg, VA) disposed of the field by over 26 seconds to secure the first place points and a lead that they would never relinquish.  The quartet of Megan David(Roanoke, VA), Lucy Manjikian (Chesapeake, VA), Kaleigh DePetro (Woodbridge, VA), and Faith Wendelin (Floyd, VA) got off to a slow start but a mid-race pass of the team from Guilford, secured second place points for Hollins.

Dani Raymond (Fredericksburg, VA) won both of the distance events when she came home first in the 100 and 500 Freestyle.  Webber added an individual first when she bested the field by four seconds to win the 100 Breaststroke.  Schattgen added a second in the 50 Freestyle while securing third place points in the 100 Backstroke.  Henke (200 Individual Medley), Caulfeild-James (100 Butterfly), and DePetro (500 Freestyle) each claimed a runner up finish to help lead Hollins to a 2-0 start to the season.

Hollins will be back in their home pool in two weeks when they host another tri-meet.  Ferrum and Gallaudet will come to Roanoke for a 1:00pm start as Hollins looks to improve on their hot start to the season.
