Iowa Leads Michigan State

Iowa Men

The University of Iowa men’s swimming and diving team won all four events to take a 60-12 lead over Michigan State on Thursday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.

“Tonight was great, we had a chance to see everyone swim,” said UI head coach Marc Long. “It’s fun and a precursor for tomorrow, so we took care of ourselves tonight and got ready for a great day of racing tomorrow.”

Iowa opened the meet with a victory in the men’s 200-freestyle relay with the quartet of freshman Matt Kamin, juniors Jackson Halsmer and Brandon Farnum, and senior Jackson Allen touching in 1:21.68.

Freshman Matt Kamin also swam to a Hawkeye win in the 800-freestyle relay alongside fellow freshman Jack Smith, junior Kyle Gannon, and senior David Ernstsson, finishing in 6:48.26.

“I’m looking forward to seeing them compete tomorrow,” said Long. “We have been training a long time, and for some people they haven’t raced short course since last year, so they’re hungry to race.”

The dual will continue Friday beginning at 4 p.m. (CT).
