Washington State Falls to Cal

 Sixteenth-ranked Washington State swimming tallied two first place finishes on day two of the dual meet against No. 3 California in a 299.50-131.5 defeat.
 
Senior Presley Wetterstrom picked up her second win of the two-day meet in the 200 breaststroke. Her time of 2:16.53 placed her sixth on the WSU Top-10 list. Wetterstrom also finished fifth in the 200 IM (2:08.85) adding two points to the Cougars’ score. Wetterstrom tallied the most points for WSU, 24.
 
The Cougars picked up 13 points in the 50 yard breaststroke. Freshman Linnea Lindberg touched the wall first at 30.19. Senior Frederikke Hall followed her at 30.27. Hall also earned one point in the 200 IM (2:10.18).
 
Freshman Jasmine Margetts also broke into the WSU Top-10 list. She finished third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.81, placing her at sixth on the list.
 
Sophomore Hannah Bruggman picked up six points for Washington State on Saturday with a second place finish in the 50 backstroke (26.71) and a fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle (51.88).
 
Freshman Ciera Kelly followed Bruggman in the 50 backstroke at 27.35. Kelly also finished fifth in the 50 freestyle at 24.56, picking up one point for the Cougars.
 
Junior Addisynn Bursch earned a total of 18 points for the Cougars, with 10 on Saturday. In the 50 freestyle, Bursch clocked a time of 24.17, touching the wall second. Bursch also had a pair of third place finishes, the 200 backstroke (2:03.94) and the 200 breaststroke (2:20.00). Following Bursch in the 200 backstroke was senior Loree Olsen at 2:04.27.
 
Junior Elise Locke earned four points for the Cougars when she finished fourth in both the 200 freestyle (1:53.43) and the 500 freestyle 5:02.10).
 
In the 50 butterfly the Cougars picked up three points. Junior Haley Rose Love touched the wall fourth (25.83), behind her was sophomore Anna Brolin at 25.91.
 
In the 200 butterfly, junior Kendra Griffin picked up two points for the Cougars when she touched the wall fourth (2:05.02).
 
Redshirt freshman Jessica Marston contributed one point to the Cougars score when she finished fifth in the 500 freestyle at 5:10.13
 
The Cougars closed the day with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Love, Bruggman, Hailey Johnson, and Locke earned three points to finish out the two-day meet.
 
Washington State returns to the pool when it travels to Tempe, Ariz. to face Arizona State on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.
