The top-ranked University of Florida women’s swim team scored a 193-69 victory over Vanderbilt on Thursday night inside the Centennial Sports Complex Natatorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The Gators (1-0 overall, 1-0 SEC) took 13-of-16 events to secure the top position in the SEC-opening dual.
The quartet of redshirt sophomores Georgia-Mae Hohmann and Paige Scheriger, junior Alyssa Yambor-Maul, and senior Natalie Hinds jumped out to a quick lead in the opening 400 medley relay. The group took first place with a time of 3:45.20.
Hinds shined throughout the night, scoring 40 total points off two individual wins and pair of relay victories. The Midland, Texas, native swam a time of 1:49.56 in her 200 freestyle, while touching out at the 54.93 mark in the 100 fly to secure both individual victories. She teamed up with Yambor-Maul, freshman Mollie Pulte, and sophomore Amelia Maughan in the 200 free relay to finish the night. The foursome combined for a first-place-finishing time of 1:35.06.
Pulte, a newcomer to the program, stepped up in the 100 freestyle, gathering the top finish after touching the wall at 51.75. The Troy, Michigan, native also posted a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle (24.17).
No divers were present in Thursday’s tilt with Vanderbilt as the Commodores do not have a diving program.
With the win, the Gators will travel to seventh-ranked Minnesota on Saturday with an unblemished record. The women are set to join the divers along with the men’s team for an 11 a.m. ET non-conference dual at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
