Franklin & Marshall Invite - Day 1

Franklin & Marshall Men

After day one of competition at the F&M Invitational, the men of Franklin & Marshall are fifth out of nine teams, totaling 205 points after one session. Delaware holds the lead with 333 points.

The 200-yard freestyle relay was the first event of the day, and the Diplomats started off fast by taking fifth and eighth place out of 18. The team of Ryan Caffrey, Matthew Murphy, David Burton, and Daniel Sanders posted a time of 1:26.97 to finish fifth and notch 50 points. Richard Perry, Keith Kamons, Tyler Zlupko, and Jack Currie were close behind, combining to clock a time of 1:29.89, good for eighth place and 44 points.

Next up was the 1650-yard freestyle, in which Patrick Greaney led the Diplomats, finishing 11th with a time of 17:08.93. Reeves Connolly finished in 17:16.09 to take 14th, and Jordan Alter rounded out F&M participation in the event by finishing in 17:36.26 to claim 21st.  

The Diplomats continued to show well in the relays, taking seventh and 11th in the 400-yard medley relay to close out the night.

Day two begins tomorrow at 9:00 a.m., featuring preliminaries in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle, 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke. There will also be timed finals of the 800-yard freestyle relay.

The victors of those events and the 200-yard medley relay will be crowned in tomorrow's night session, which kicks off at 6:00 p.m.

 

Franklin & Marshall Women

Thanks to Becca Meyers' victory in the 1650-yard freestyle, Franklin & Marshall women's swimming found itself in fourth place out of 12 teams after day one of competition in the F&M Invitational. The Diplomats racked up 186 total points, while University of Delaware leads with 314. 

Meyers posted a time of 16:53.40, smashing the previous meet record of 17:10.14, set last year by Haley Fournier of Mt. St. Mary's. Fournier had to settle for runner-up honors this year, taking second in 17:16.67, more than 23 second behind Meyers.

Breann Cavanagh took to the pool for the Diplomats in the same event, finishing in 18:20.38 to come in 14th and win 13 points for the Diplomats.

F&M opened the night by claiming 10th place in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with the team of Jillian Albus, Alyson Campbell, Anna Hess, and Taylor Mateja posting a time of 1:41.29. The Diplomats also took 15th in the event, as Courtney Collins, Melissa Mullin, Colleen Lawlor, and Katie Schick finished in 1:43.68.

The 400-yard medley relay was the third and final event of the evening, taking fifth and 15th place to move into fourth place overall after the first session.

 

Frostburg State

After day one of the Franklin and Marshall Invitational, the Frostburg State women's swim team currently sits in 10th place with 53 points, while the Frostburg State men's team has 92 points and finished the day in eighth place.

The Bobcat women competed in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-medley relay.

The freestyle relay team of freshman Maddie Weinberger, junior Sydney Fazenbaker, freshman Emily Turner and sophomore Macey Nitchie placed 13th overall with a season-best time of 1:43.54. This time was just two seconds off of the Bobcat record of 1:41.08, set in 1985.

Turner, Fazenbaker, Weinberger and Nitchie also swam the 400-medley relay, placing 18th overall with a season- best time of 4:18.54.

On the men's side, the 200-freestyle relay team of sophomore Christian March, sophomore Christian Blocker, sophomore James Williams and freshman Sidney Horton placed 14th overall in 1:30.85.

Sophomore Daniel Ryczek competed in the 1650-yard freestyle for the Bobcats, finishing with a time of 18:52.59.

The men ended the day with the 400-medley relay. The team of sophomore Deionn Yarberough, March, Horton and Williams swam a season- best performance in 3:42.29, touching in at 13th place.
Prelims for day two of the F&M Invite are set to begin at 9:00 am.
