Westminster Sweeps Wooster

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed at The College of Wooster on Saturday.

The Titan men's team (4-0) won 167-127, while the Titan women's team (3-1) lost 195-98.

Westminster won a total of 16 events (12 for the men's team and four for the women's team).

Senior Matt Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) and Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield) both won a pair of individual events and were part of the winning 200 medley relay team that clocked in at 1:37.64. Senior Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle) and sophomore Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin) completed the quartet. Karper also finished first in the 200 backstroke (2:00.09).    

Baurle also won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.13) and the 200 breaststroke (2:15.81), while Spencer won the 50 freestyle (21.69) and the 100 butterfly (53.92).  Spencer was also the first leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay team that clocked in at 3:17.64. Rounding out the foursome were freshman David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside), senior Max Hague (Canton, OH / Glenoak), and sophomore Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park).

Stahara additionally won three individual events: the 200 freestyle (1:45.67), the 100 freestyle (48.01), and the 500 freestyle (4:57.50).

Also picking up wins for the Titans were freshman Griffin Nincke (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) in the 1,650 freestyle (17:34.89) and freshman Luke Simmons (Ashland, OH / Ashland) in the 200 IM (2:03.60).    

Junior Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) led the Titan women's team as she broke a pool record in the 1,650 freestyle with a winning time of 18:15.24. Tillie also won the 500 freestyle (5:20.49). 

Also earning a win for Westminster were sophomore Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) in the 100 butterfly (1:01.05) and junior Sam Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional) in the 200 IM (2:21.15).

Westminster will next host Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
