Westminster Sweeps Allegheny

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept Allegheny College at home on Saturday.

The Titan men's team won 164-102, while the women's team won 165-127.

Both Titan teams remain undefeated in dual meet competition with a 3-0 record. The Allegheny women's team dropped to 1-2, while the men's team fell to 2-1.

The Westminster men's team won 11 events (not including an exhibition event), while the women's team won nine.

Senior Matt Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) paced the Titans with two individual wins and was part of a winning relay. Baurle won the 100 breaststroke (59.99) and the 200 breaststroke (2:13.64). He was also the second leg of the 400 medley relay team which won with a time of 3:34.79. Completing the quartet were senior Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle), sophomore Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin), and sophomore Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park).

Stahara (200 freestyle/1:46.03), Karper (100 backstroke/54.12), and Kolesar (200 butterfly/2:07.28) also picked up individual victories.     

Freshman David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) and freshman Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield) earned two individual wins each as Peffer touched first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:23.06) and 200 backstroke (2:01.35), while Spencer finished first in the 50 freestyle (21.84) and in the 100 butterfly (54.28). 

Sophomore Carlos Barrett (Laurel, MD / Hammond) placed first in the 3-meter dive with 126.95 points.   

Sophomore Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) and junior Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) led the women's team with three individual wins apieace and were each part of a winning relay team.

Douds won the 200 butterfly (2:16.18), the 100 freestyle (56.46), and the 100 butterfly (1:01.05).  She was also the third leg of the winning 400 medley relay team which clocked in at 4:14.81. Completing the team were senior Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock), junior Samantha Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional), and junior Sarah Pace (Cranberry Township, PA / Oakland Catholic). Tower also won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.56).  

Tillie won the 1,000 freestyle (10:55.32), the 500 freestyle (5:20.26), and the 400 IM (4:54.67). She was also the anchor of the 200 freestyle relay which won at 1:44.85. Sophomore Anna Amsbaugh (Carlisle, PA / Boiling Springs), first-year Maggie Long (Fairport, NY / Fairport), and Pace completed the quartet.

Westminster will next compete at The College of Wooster next Saturday at 1 p.m.
