Nova Southeastern Swept by Indian River

The Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming team dropped a dual-meet against Indian River State College by a score of 135-127 on the women's side and 144.5-117.5 on the men's side.
 
Men
 
The men opened their afternoon finishing second in the 200-yard medley relay, after Marco Aldabe, Cory Klemm, Victor Tarin and Malique Elder swam a time of 1:32.91, .15 seconds away from a win. Jean-David Rousseau then swam a second-place time of 9:52.99 in the 1000-yard freestyle. Following Rousseau was Victor Tarin, who swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:40.50 to take second place in the 200-yard freestyle.
 
In the fourth men's event of the day, Aldabe took first place with a time of 51.08 in the 100-yard backstroke. Cory Klemm followed Aldabe with a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke after swimming a time of 59.89. Thomas Rutherford then took second place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.72.
 
Continuing his success in just about every race he competes in, Thiago Sickert won the next two races, the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, swimming NCAA B-Standard times of 20.61 and 45.15, respectively. Freshman David Van Der Colff followed with a win in the 200-yard backstroke, swimming a time of 1:52.95.
 
Aldabe and Tarin would take second a third place in the next two events, respectively, as Aldabe swam a time of 2:05.13 in the 200-yard breaststroke and Tarin swam a time of 4:44.59 in the 500-yard freestyle. The Sharks would go on to win the final two individual events, as Sickert swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 49.22 in the 100-yard butterfly and Aldabe swam a time of 1:53.44 in the 200-yard individual medley.
 
The men would end their day with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, swimming a time of 3:05.80. Sickert, Javier Caballero, Elder and Tarin were neck-and-neck with IRSC the whole race but were unable to pull out the first-place finish in the end.
 
Women
 
The women opened the afternoon with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay, as Emma Wahlstrom, Malin Westman, Courtney DeVeny and Sydney Panzarino swam a time of 1:46.64. Brooke Munion then won the 1000-free, swimming a time of 1:37.51 to defeat her competition by nearly eight seconds.
 
In the third women's event of the day, the 200-free, Wahlstrom swam her first NCAA B-Standard time to take first place. Wahlstrom's time of 1:51.97 was trailed by DeVeny, who went on to win the 100-back with a time of 57.25, .02 seconds short of a NCAA B-Standard time. Westman then swam her first NCAA B-Standard time, finishing in second place in the 100-back with a time of 1:04.70.
 
Freshman Caroline Oster took third place in the 200-fly with a time of 2:11.80 followed by a second-place finish from Panzarino in the 50-free with a time of 24.35. Wahlstrom followed with her second NCAA B-Standard time of the afternoon, swimming a time of 51.82 in the 100-free. DeVeny then swam a time of 2:03.79 to take first place in the 200-back.
 
In the 200-breast, Westman took second place after swimming a time of 2:21.10. Georgina Allin followed with a win in the women's 500-free, swimming a time of 5:08.24. Oster then swam to a third-place finish in the 100-fly, swimming a time of 1:00.40. In the final individual event of the afternoon, the 200-IM, DeVeny took second place with a time of 2:07.50.
 
The women's meet came down to the final event, the 400-free relay. The Sharks fell to the Pioneers, taking second place in the event, but not before Wahlstrom, Panzarino, Jordan Shows and Allin swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 3:29.99.
 
#TeamChlorine will be back in action on Saturday, November 7th, as both the men and women's swimming team head to Winter Park, Fla. to take on Rollins College. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
