Duke Swimmers Earn Trials Cuts, Paez Sets Blue Devil 200 IM Mark

After concluding the 2015 ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday evening, the Blue Devil men returned to Georgia Tech’s Aquatic Center Sunday for the second round of the 2015 Georgia Tech Long Course Trials Qualifier.

Sophomore Michael Miller, who scored for Duke in three individual events at ACCs, started off the day by earning 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials qualification in the 100-meter butterfly. His time of 54.48 was good for a team record in the event.

Senior Stefan Knight also posted an Olympic Trials cut with a 23.29 clocking in the 50 freestyle.

Another highlight on the day came in the 400 freestyle, which saw freshman Alex Peña break the program record with a 4:03.21 swim.

The 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials are slated for June 26-July 3 at the CenturyLink Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb.

Meanwhile, in Athens, Ga., sophomore Isabella Paez competed in the 200-yard butterfly at the Bulldog Last Chance meet Sunday. The Medley, Fla., native touched in 1:56.92 to break her own school record of 1:57.39, set during the fall at the Nike Cup Invitational.
