Loyola Beats Mount St. Mary's

Seniors Erin Calderoni and Brianna Keelan won three events each Friday night to lead the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team to a 194-98 win over Mount St. Mary’s at Mangione Pool on Senior Day.
 
Keelan touched first in the 100 breast in a time of 1:08.44 and the 500 free in 5:11.14, before teaming with classmates Calderoni, Rachel Zucco and Brittany Bond to cap off the meet with a win in the 200 free relay (1:41.08).
 
Calderoni anchored the Greyhounds’ 200 medley relay team of sophomore Marie Clarkson, sophomore Tara Mulligan and freshman Courteney Martin to victory in 1:50.53 to started the meet. She also won the 100 free in 53.75.
 
Senior Melissa Martinez was the first individual winner of the day, capturing the 100 back in 59.54, before junior Kat Richter and classmate Jenny Riley won the 200 fly (2:08.72) and 50 free (25.32), respectively.
 
Freshman Maggie Garrahan captured the 3-meter diving with a score of 211.95 and then freshman Elizabeth Verzella notched her first career win, touching first in the 200 back in a time of 2:11.04.
 
In the 100 fly, freshman Maddie Myers led all swimmers to the finish, completing the race in 1:00.99.
 
Sophomore Samantha Freitas rounded out the individual events by winning the 1-meter boards. She earned a score of 202.95.
 
The Greyhounds will return to the pool tomorrow for one final tune-up before the 2015 Patriot League Championships. Loyola will head to Bucknell for the Pre-Patriot League Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
