Penn State's Ackman Qualifies for Pan Ams, Worlds for Canada

Penn State junior Alyson Ackman (Montreal, Quebec) qualified for Team Canada’s World Championship and Pan American women’s swimming teams after competing in the 2015 Team Canada Trials, April 1-4.

Ackman was joined by Penn State teammate Taylor Cameron (Burlington, Ontario) at the trials, which were conducted in a 50-meter long course pool.

Ackman competed in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events, placing in the top seven of all three. Her best finish came in the 200, where she placed fourth in 1:59.05. She touched in 55.13 in the 100 free to place fifth, and completed the 50 in 25.61 to place seventh. All three times were career bests.

Cameron competed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, placing 18th in the 200 in 2:35.53, and 15th in the 100 in 1:11.13. Both times were also career bests.

The Pan American Games will be contested in July in Toronto, while the FINA World Championships will be contested July-August in Kazan, Russia.
