Funk Promoted to Assistant at TCU

TCU’s swimming & diving team announced the promotion of John Funk to assistant coach today.

After a national search for a new assistant coach, head coach Richard Sybesma determined the perfect fit for the Frogs was already in the system.

“We are excited to hire John Funk as our new assistant coach and men’s team coordinator,” Sybesma said. “John brings a wealth of experience as a great swimmer from Rider University, and he has been an asset to our program as a Graduate Assistant. John is a tireless recruiter, great coach, and has unbelievable energy for the sport of swimming.”
A three-time team MVP at Rider, Funk helped lead the Broncs to back-to-back Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) titles in 2012 and 2013. A three-time MAAC conference champion and record holder, he posted an NCAA B Cut 1:47.56 in the 200-yard individual medley at the 2012 MAAC Championships. Funk also swam a career-best 1:47.90 in the 200-yard backstroke at the 2012 MAAC Championships.

“I’m very happy to have an opportunity like this and grateful to Coach Sybesma,” Funk said. “I’m looking to help maintain the continuity of the program.”

Funk, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., came to TCU as a graduate assistant in 2013.
