Frostburg State Opens Season With Sweep of Gallaudat

The Frostburg State men's and women's swimming teams kicked off their 2014-15 season with big wins over Gallaudet, Saturday. The Bobcat men won 208-51, while the women grabbed a 171-91 victory.
 
Combined the Bobcats won all four relay events and 11 different Frostburg swimmers captured a victory.
 
Freshmen Christian March and James Williams powered the meet for the men with three wins each, while senior Kaitlyn Donch and freshman Macey Nitchie each posted a pair of wins for the women.
 
March opened his collegiate career with wins in the 100-yard butterfly (59.56), 100-yard freestyle (52.05) and 100-yard IM (59.07), while Williams captured gold in the 50-yard backstroke (28.97), 100-yard backstroke (1:01.86) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.92).
 
March and Williams kicked off the meet when they joined junior Jon Shepard and freshman Marquell Proctor for a win in the 200-yard medley at 1:47.12. Individually, Proctor posted a pair of wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.57) and the 50-yard freestyle (24.76).
 
Shepard earned wins in the 50-yard breaststroke (29.13) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.20), while sophomore Aleksander Combs earned victories in the 50-yard butterfly (28.78) and 1,000-yard freestyle (12:38.26).
 
Meanwhile, Donch captured victories in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.72) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.80). Nitchie opened the individual portion of the meet by winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:25.97.She also tossed in a win in the 100-yard freestyle (59.76).
 
Donch and Nitche combined with junior Maci Quintanilla and senior Jaclyn Franzak for a win in the 200-yard medley (2:03.10), while Quintanilla, senior Elizabeth Jarrell, senior Sara King and sophomore Sydney Fazenbaker won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:22.63.
 
Individually, Jarrell earned a win in the 50-yard freestyle (28.50) and Franzak won the 50-yard butterfly (29.47).
 
FSU returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Hood, Stevenson and Goucher at 1:00 pm.
