George Washington Begins Quad Meet

The GW men's swimming & diving team concluded the first day of a quad-meet with local rivals American, Catholic and Loyola (Md.) on Friday evening at the Greyhounds' Mangione Pool.

Senior Goran Koprivnjak, sophomores Bogdan Balteanu and Liam Huffman and rookies Parker Boutwell and Gustav Hokfelt paced the Colonials on the night with top-five finishes through the first three swimming events. 

Opening the meet with the 500-yard freestyle, Huffman and Boutwell finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 4:51.73 and 4:52.21. JuniorOliver Keegan (4:55.34) earned seventh place, followed by freshman Connor Hart (4:56.61) in eighth and classmate Adam Drury (4:57.22) in ninth.

Koprivnjak and Balteanu finished a close second and third in the 200-yard individual medley as Koprivnjak clocked in at 1:56.81 and Balteanu closed at 1:56.90. Senior Adam Rabe earned seventh place with a time of 2:01.98.

In the 50 free, freshman Gustav Hokfelt paced the squad with a fourth-place finish in 22.30 seconds. Sophomore Ben Fitch finished in sixth in 22.39 seconds, while Koprivnjak (22.54) took home eighth, Drury and Boutwell (22.78) tied for 11th, sophomore Ryan O'Malley (22.82) claimed 12th and Rabe (22.87) finished in 14th.

The Colonials wrap the final day of the meet on Saturday at American's Reeves Aquatic Center. The first session is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m., followed by the final session at 5 p.m.

 

The George Washington women’s swimming and diving team closed the first day of a quad-meet with local foes American, Catholic and Loyola (Md.) at the Greyhounds’ Mangione Pool on Friday evening. 

Senior Janica Lee claimed top honors in an event while sophomore Lauren Law and rookies Abbey Fusco and Hannah Kopydlowski all earned second-place finishes to pace the Buff and Blue through the first three swimming events. Additionally, divers sophomore Jessica Ryabin and freshman Iman Lee made their debuts on the one-meter and three-meter boards.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Lee and Law finished first and second with times of 2:12.24 and 2:12.31, respectively. Fusco earned second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.74, and Law followed in ninth in 5:21.70.

Kopydlowski earned second place in the 50 free in 24.69 seconds, while junior Maggie Hofstadter (25.40) finished fourth, Law (25.34) finished fifth, Lee (25.47) claimed eighth, and senior Morgan Zebley (25.52) and freshman Phoebe Turner (25.57) took home 11th and 12th.

Making their first appearances for the Colonials, Ryabin earned seventh in the one-meter dive with 152.70 points and Lee finished 10th with 101.40 points. On the three-meter dive, Ryabin finished seventh with 139.26 points, followed by Lee in ninth with a total of 112.80 points.

The Colonials wrap the final day of the quad-meet on Saturday at American’s Reeves Aquatic Center. The first session is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m., followed by the final session at 5 p.m.
