Union Splits With Transylvania

The Union College swimming teams split in a dual-meet action against NCAA Division III Transylvania (Ky.) Saturday afternoon. The men defeated the Pioneers 121-106 while the women fell 138-112.

"Today's meet was a very good last step in our preparation for our winter invitational meet, which is the main meet of our fall schedule," said head coach Rafael Forti. "We were able to have good competition in several events, and we competed well today, earning most victories in the meet (17 of 29 events)."

On the men's side, Bradley Moore (SO/Melbourne, Australia) led the Bulldogs with three wins, two NAIA "A" and 
one "B" cut times. Moore won his usual three events in the 200-free (1:48.52), 200-back (1:57.31) and 500-free (4:59.65). The 500-free is the only event that Moore did not collect an "A" cut time.

Dalton Baxter (SO/Woodstock, Ga. ) followed Moore's performance with one win and two second place finishes. Baxter captured the 1000-free with a time of 10:39.15. He finished second in the 200-free (1:51.25) good enough for an "A" cut and second in the 500-free (5:00.87) for a "B" cut time.

Nathan Lethbridge (FR/London, Canada) continued his freshman standout season with three more wins. Lethbridge won the 50-free (22.10), 100-free (49.16) and 100-fly (53.51). All three wins were "B" cut performances for Lethbridge.

Torger Torgersen (FR/Cross Plains, Tenn.) finished first in the 200-fly (2:07.66) and second in the 200-breast (2:22.49). Lucas Lucena (SO/Joinville, Brazil) won the 100-back for a "B" cut time of 56.41 and finished second in the 200-back with a "B" cut time of 2:04.85. Aaron Bean (JR/Madisonville, Ky. ) finished third in the 200-breast (2:24.65) and third in the 200-IM (2:10.70).

The men closed out the meet with a win in the 400-free relay with an "A" cut time of 3:20.25.

The Union women started out the meet with a second place finish in the 200-medley relay with an "A" cut time of 1:54.93.

Callie Harrigan (SR/Windsor, Canada) led the women with two wins and one second place finish. Harrigan finished first in the 200-free (2:06.50), first in the 100-free (54.13) and second in the 50-free (25.27). Harrigan earned "A" cuts in the 50 and 100-free while earning a "B" cut in the 200-free.

Jule Stein (SO/Stuttgart, Germany) won the 100-breast (1:10.62) and 200-breast (2:31.95), both wins were "A" cut times.

Lara Kaufmann (SO/Schwerte, Germany) took home two wins and one second place finish. Kaufman won the 1000-free (11:23.68) and 500-free (5:28.80) while finishing second in the 200-fly (2:23.39). She finished with "B" cuts in the 500-free and 200-fly.

Eliska Melicharova (SO/Upice, Czech Republic) placed second in the 100-back (1:04.92) and the 200-back (2:21.71). Kellianne Holck (SO/Island Lake, Ill. ) finished second in the 200-free (2:12.41) second in the 500-free (5:39.52) and third in the 100-free (59.90). Sarah Cummins (FR/Carnoustic, Scotland) won the 100-fly (1:04.56), placed third in the 200-back (2:25.24) and third in the 100-back (1:05.68).

The women closed out their day with a second place finish in the 400-free relay with an "A" cut time of 4:02.63.

"I am super excited for our team, as they have been training hard and we should be able to have a very good idea of how this is going in early December," Forti said.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Dec. 5-6 when they host the Union College Winter Invitational inside the Stivers Aquatic Center.
