Bentley Sweeps UMass-Dartmouth

Winning 11 of 13 events, Bentley University cruised to a 134-71 win over UMass-Dartmouth in men’s college swimming action Wednesday night at the Dana Center pool.
                
A trio of Bentley student-athletes each won two individual events, including junior Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) who swept the diving. He recorded a score of 233.77 on the one-meter board and bettered that with a 247.07 from the three-meter.
                
The other double-winners were sophomore Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown HS) and freshman Aiden Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy). Ahlmeyer outdistanced the field in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:05.98) and posted a winning time of 57.34 seconds in the 100 backstroke. Karam’s victories came in the 50 free (23.14) and the 100 free (50.51).
                
Bentley’s list of individual winners also included freshman Jon Boains (Unionville, Conn./ Farmingtion HS) in the 200 free (1:52.37), sophomore Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/ Lubbock HS) in the 200 individual medley (2:07.21) and junior Tim Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Academy) in the 500 free (5:15.60).
                
Wilson and Connolly were also part of winning relays, and sophomore Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS) was part of both, with Bentley posting times of 1:42.77 in the 200 medley and 1:33.82 in the 200 free.
                
Bentley, now 2-3, will be in action twice this weekend, swimming at Brandeis Friday (5:00) and Norwich Saturday (1:00).


Bentley University freshman Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) was a triple-winner as the Falcons topped UMass-Dartmouth, 138-86, in women’s college swimming Wednesday night at the Dana Center pool.
                
Bentley captured 12 of 13 events with Niemiec the first to touch in the 200 yard freestyle (2:02.01), the 100 butterfly (1:04.25) and the 500 free (5:27.35).
                
Sophomore Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) also had a strong meet as she finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:18.40) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.12) after helping the Falcons win the 200 medley relay in 2:00.63.
                
Senior Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) took both diving events with scores of 242.53 on the one-meter and 227.02 from the three-meter.
                
Also winning individual events were senior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) in the 1000 free (11:20.17), junior Kelly Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 100 free (1:00.40) and junior Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J./Bergen County Academies) in the 50 free (26.94).
                
Bentley improved to 2-3 with the victory. The team has two meets this weekend, Friday at Brandeis at 5 pm and Saturday at Norwich at 1 pm.
