Bentley Swept by Saint Rose

Bentley University junior diver Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) accounted for two of his team’s three wins during a 131-108 loss to The College of Saint Rose in men’s college swimming Sunday afternoon at RPI.

Bridge scored a 262.35 off the one-meter board and followed that with a 248.50 in the three-meter competition. He was pressured in the former with his winning margin over Saint Rose’s David Genender just 13.15 points. The margin was more comfortable in the three-meter, 33.70.

The Falcons’ other victory came in the 200 yard freestyle relay with sophomores Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS) and Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) combining with freshman Chris Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and junior Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) for a winning time of 1:30.41.

Among the team’s second-place finishes were Wilson in the 200 free (1:50.33) and senior Connor Mulvey-Hudson (Ardmore, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep) in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.45). Both times were season-bests for Bentley.

Other seconds in individual events were registered by Bury in the 100 free (50.06), Bartlett in the 50 free (22.67) and junior Tim Connolly (Dorchester, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) in the 100 backstroke (56.15).

Bentley, 1-3, returns to action Nov. 19 at home against UMass-Dartmouth, the first of three meets in four days.

Bentley University senior Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) posted two diving victories and freshman Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) achieved the team’s only swimming win as the Falcons dropped a 142-91 decision to The College of Saint Rose in women’s college swimming Sunday afternoon at RPI.

Wilde, who has already met the standard for the NCAA Division II pre-qualifying meet, recorded winning scores of 234.40 from the one-meter board and 233.60 from the three-meter, taking each event by at least 40 points.

Niemiec’s victory came in the 200 yard individual medley with her time of 2:17.09 a Falcon season-best and also the fourth best recorded by a Northeast-10 Conference swimmer this season. She was also part of Bentley’s 200 medley relay team that finished second in 1:56.17, a team-best time for the season.

That relay also included junior Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J./Bergen County Academies), sophomore Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston, Mass./Tahanto Reg. HS) and senior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS).

Other seconds for the Falcons in individual events included McGahie in the 100 freestyle (56.07), Edwards in the 500 free (5:32.54), junior Kelly Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 1000 free (11:34.69) and sophomore Nicole Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) in the 50 free (25.92).
