Washington College Men Fall to Gettysburg

Visiting Gettysburg snapped a 122-122 tie by winning the final event, the men's 400 freestyle relay to come away with a 135-126 victory at the Casey Swim Center on Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference men's swimming meet.  The Bullets are now 1-0 overall and in the conference, while the Shoremen drop to 2-1 and 1-1 respectively.

The men's 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Kevin Mackenzie (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College H.S. (D.C), freshman Cody Weiler (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area), junior Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) and senior Austin Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) recorded a time of 3:14.04 and Mackenzie became the seventh fastest swimmer in WC history in the 100 freestyle with his time of 47.81 as he swam the opening leg of the relay.  Gettysburg won the relay with a time of 3:12.51.

Junior Lucas Morgan (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) won two events for the Shoremen on the day.  He captured first in the 1000 freestyle (10:14.55) and the 200 breastroke (2:12.66).  He earned second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.05. 

Three Shoremen each won an individual event on the day.  Sophomore Brent Hochstein (Townsend, Del./Salesianum) won the 200 butterfly (2:01.63), Yocum earned first in the 500 freestyle (5:02.99) and Longenecker captured the 100 fly (52.59).

Second place finishers for the hosts were sophomore Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Penncrest) in the 100 backstroke (54.30) and 200 backstroke (2:02.12), senior Greg Lee (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) in the 200 butterfly (2:07.10), Hochstein in the 500 free (5:04.40) and 200 individual medley (2:02.25) and Yocum in the 200 freestyle (1:46.25).

The relay team of junior Charles Logan (Durham, N.C./Riverside), Mackenzie, Lee and Yocum finished second in the 200 medley relay at 1:37.73.

The Shoremen went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle.

Longenecker (21.94) placed third in the 50 free and was the team's top finisher in the event.

The Shoremen are back in action on November 21 with a 5:30 p.m. non-conference meet at St. Mary's (Md.).
