UNLV Sweeps UC-Bakersfield, Splits With Air Force, Men Fall to Denver

The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against a total of five other teams on Saturday, with the Rebel men topping Air Force 196-101 and Bakersfield 217-74 while dropping to Denver by a 153.5-143.5 score. UNLV's women meanwhile posted a 179-120 score over Bakersfield but lost by a 175-124 score to Air Force. 

The meet began with the 200 medley relay, and the Rebels would sweep the event. UNLV won the women's race in a time of 1:45.49, thanks to the quartet of Jessica Wong, Natalie Sanchez, Katelyne Herrington and Elena Gavrilova. Henrique Machado David Szele, Tom Paco-Pedroni and Dillon Virva won the men's race with a time of 1:29.98. 

The next two wins came from the men, with Machado placing first in the 100 back (49.50) and Szele winning the 100 breast in 55.88. UNLV swept the 50 free, with Julia Fehervari posting a time of 23.86, and Virva touching the wall first in 20.45 in the men's event. 

Paco Pedroni gave UNLV the next victory, in the 100 free (44.95). Giacomo Gremizzi then won the first of two events on the day, the 200 breast with a time of 2:04.62. Herrington added a win in the 100 fly for the women after finishing in 56.15. Gremizzi then claimed his second race, the 400 IM, in 3:58.33. 

UNLV ended the meet by sweeping the final relay, the 400 free. Jessica Heim, Fehervari, Gavrilova and Rachel Dixon won the women's race with a time of 3:27.93. The winning men's team was made up of Rebels Paco-Pedroni, Virva, Guilherme Passos and Machado, who posted a time of 3:02.11. 

The Rebels will have their final action before the conference championships next weekend with a Senior Day meet against Wyoming and the Nevada, Reno women's squad. That meet will start at 12 pm in Buchanan Natatorium.
