Western Kentucky Off to Hot Start in Quad With Marshall, Vandy, Cumberlands

Looking to cap off the 2013-14 regular season on a high note, the Western Kentucky University swimming and diving team jumped out to a great start in its quad meet against Vanderbilt, Marshall and University of the Cumberlands on Friday night.

Nadine Laemmler and Seth Musser were double winners for WKU, as the pair swept both the 100 back and 200 IM. Laemmler finished the 100 back in 56.01 and 200 IM in 2:06.63 while S. Musser was close to breaking pool records in both events, finishing in 49.72 and 1:51.90, respectively.

On the diving boards, Madison Rylee, Nicole Ares and Alexandra Mata took the top three spots with Rylee holding the top score of 253.57 on the one meter. WKU’s Giorgi Meyer and Zach Batus were the only men competing, as Meyer had the best score on the three meter at 278.62.

WKU totaled 15 individual wins and three relay wins, as the men’s 200 medley and 400 free relays went 1-2 against the field in each event.

Action for the final day of the quad meet begins at noon on Saturday, Jan. 25 in Bill Powell Natatorium. Before the events begin, WKU will honor its 11 seniors prior to the meet, as it is the last home meet of their careers on The Hill.
