Vermont Falls to Dartmouth

The Vermont women's swimming and diving team fell to Dartmouth 200.5-99.5 on UVM's senior day Sunday afternoon at Forbush Natatorium.

Seniors Emily Alexander, Marcella Melloni, Rebecca Schreiber, Taylor Slone and Eva Wimberley all celebrated their final home meet with the Catamounts on Sunday.

The Catamounts earned the top two spots in the 200 back, led by Ilsa Feierabend, who won the event in 2:06.84. Elena Melloni finished in second behind Feierabend with a time of 2:10.41.

Christa Weaver once again registered strong showings in the 50 and 100 free. The sophomore tied for first-place in the 50 (24.47), and took the top spot in the 100 (53.20). Fellow classmate Andie Blaser finished in third place in the 100 (53.99).

Courtney Gray collected the other top spot of the afternoon for the Catamounts, winning the 100 fly in 59.80. Ashley Mitson earned a third-place showing in the event after touching the wall in 1:00.90.

The Catamounts also collected two of the top three spots in the 100 back and 200 breaststroke. In the 100 back, Feierabend (1:00.21) and Elena Melloni (1:00.92) finished second and third, respectively. Lauren Becker (2:32.60) and Wimberley (2:33.91) took second and third in the 200 breast.

The Catamounts registered third-place showings in both of the long distance freestyle events. Freshman Sarah Mantz took third in the 500 free with a time of 5:17.00, and Slone swam the 1000 free in 10:50.15. Wimberley also finished in third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.47.

Vermont closed out the meet by finishing second in the 200 free relay, as the squad of Mantz, Blaser, Katie Adams and Weaver clocked in at 1:38.85.

With the win, Dartmouth improves to 1-5 in dual meets, while Vermont falls to 7-6 overall.

The Catamounts travel to face Rhode Island in their final dual meet of the season on Saturday (Jan. 25) at 12 p.m. in Kingston, R.I.
