UAA Recaps - Day 2

The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams added three school records and 20 B-cuts on the final day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships Saturday in Atlanta.

Due to inclement weather and travel issues for some of the teams, final results and team scoring will not be available until Monday. Five of the eight UAA schools competed at Emory Friday-Saturday, while Case Western Reserve University, the University of Chicago and the University of Rochester are competing in a satellite UAA Championship hosted by Case Saturday-Sunday.

A day after posting seven school records and 21 B-cut times, Washington U. had three more school-record performances during Saturday’s action. Sophomore Sophie Gan recorded her second school record of the meet, breaking her own mark in the 200 breaststroke finals with a B-cut time of 2:19.14. Senior Chi Pham also posted a season-best time of 2:24.80 in the event finals, and added a B-cut and season-best time of 4:30.22 in the prelims of the 400 individual medley. Junior Sara Taege clocked a season-best and B-cut time of 4:25.98 in the finals of the event.

Junior Zane Turpin led three WUSTL men who posted B-cuts and the three fastest times in Atlanta in the 1,650 freestyle. Turpin set the school record with a time of 15:26.52, while junior Luke Dobben (15:33.27) and freshman Andrew Ellison (15:49.45) also had season-bests and B-cuts in the event. Turpin added a B-cut time of 4:04.08 in the prelims of the 400 IM, before posting a time of 4:04.88 in the event finals. Freshman Matt Liu added a season-best and B-cut time of 4:06.42 in the final of the 400 IM.

Sophomore Kaisen Yao, freshman Michael Lagieski, sophomore Reed Dalton and freshman Justin Morrell teamed up to post a B-cut time of 1:31.98 in the 200-medley relay. The foursome also broke the school record with a B-cut time of 1:30.74 in a time trial for the event. Lagieski also had a season-best and B-cut time of 2:00.73 in the 200 breaststroke, while Dalton posted a B-cut of 49.23 in the prelims of the 100 butterfly.

Sophomore Hannah Lillioja clocked a season-best and B-cut time of 56.79 in the prelims of the women’s 100 backstroke, while sophomore Katie Anderson also had a season-best and B-cut (57.35) in the event prelims. Lillioja, Gan, freshman Lauren Carlos and sophomore Kristalyn McAfee teamed up to post a B-cut time of 1:46.59 in a time trial of the women’s 200-medley relay. Taege, Pham, McAfee and freshman MariMac Collins swam to a B-cut in the 400-free relay in a time of 3:29.30. McAfee had a B-cut time of 1:51.24 in the 200-free prelims, while Collins posted a season-best of 1:54.60 in the finals of the event. Senior Grace Murray finished with a season-best and B-cut time of 17:25.39 in the women’s 1,650 freestyle.

Junior Matt Nutter clocked a season-best time in the men’s 100 backstroke finals with a B-cut time of 51.08, while senior Jason Wan also posted a season-best with a time of 52.87 in the final. Nutter also teamed with Dalton, Dobben and Morrell to clock a B-cut time of 3:04.59 in the 400-free relay. Dobben added a B-cut time of 1:40.84 in a time trial for the 200 freestyle.
