Fairfield Falls to Marist

The Fairfield University men’s and women's swimming & diving teams fell to MAAC opponent Marist College this afternoon at the RecPlex pool. The men’s team fell to the Red Foxes, 174-118, while the women’s team was edged, 173-124. The women's team moves to 2-2 while the men's team falls to 0-4.
 
Senior Suzy Lawlor had two individual victories and a relay win for the Stags. Lawlor captured the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:16.71 and the 200m breaststroke with a winning time of 2:47.93. She also swam second leg in the 200m medley relay which finished first with a time of 2:05.84.
 
Fairfield took the top two spots in the women's 50m freestyle as Margaret Osmulski clocked a winning time of 28.22 seconds while Liz Avery was the runner-up in 28.32 seconds.
 
The Stags took the first two spots in the 200m freestyle relay. The relay team of Avery, Meghan Weiser, Ashley Boyle, and Lawlor earned first place points with a time of 1:56.48. Claire Csenge, Gabrielle Angresano, Katherine Kraus, and Danielle Latino recorded a time of 2:04.87 to earn second place points.
 
Junior Ashlee Steinberger was the runner-up in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the women. Steinberger recorded a mark of 227.02 on the 1-meter and a score of 236.17 on the 3-meter. Lauren Kemple posted a 167.05 on the 1-meter, placing fifth, and scored a 184.65 on the 3-meter, placing sixth. Rookie Leah Pawelczyk placed fifth on the 3-meter with a score of 188.40 while classmate Caroline Gailius posted a sixth place score of 157.35 on the 1-meter event.
 
On the men's side, sophomore Connor Daly won two events and captured two program records for the Stags. He captured the 100m butterfly with a time of 58.78 seconds, breaking his previous record of 59.40 seconds. Daly also captured the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:11.65, breaking his previous record of 2:11.81.
 
Seniors Cody Parker and Kevin Greener also won events for the Stags. Parker captured the 200m freestyle with a winning time of 2:01.67 while Greener captured the 400m freestyle with a winning time of 4:23.25.
 
Fairfield took the first two spots in the 200m freestyle relay. The relay team of Jay Cook, Andrew Tavcar, Andrew Robinson, and Scott McGinty earned first place points with a time of 1:42.61. Nick Cannone, Pat Orkins, Greener, and Rich Straub recorded a time of 1:49.65 to earn second place points.
 
On the boards, rookie Daniel Pires had the best showing for the Stags. Pires recorded a mark of 245.55 on the 1-meter, placing third, and a score of 252.45 on the 3-meter, placing fourth. Junior Evan Barr placed fifth in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the men. Barr posted a score of 221.49 on the 1-meter and a score of 240.37 on the 3-meter.
 
The Fairfield divers return to action on November 16 when they host the 2013 Fairfield Diving Invitational at the RecPlex Pool at 12pm. The Fairfield swimming & diving teams will return to action on December 6-8 when they compete in the ECAC Open Championships in New York, N.Y.
