Ball State Falls to Miami (OH)

The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team dropped a 173-125 decision to MAC foe Miami Friday evening at Lewellen Aquatic Center. The Cardinals were led by seniors Haley Richter and Bridgette Ruehl who each picked up two individual wins.

Richter won the 100 fly with a 56.04 and the 200 free with a 1:54.60. Richter was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. Ruehl remained perfect on the season in the breaststroke, touching at 1:03.98 in the 100 breast and a season-best 2:19.48 in the 200 breast.

Ball State started off the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay when senior Mallory Miles, Ruehl, Richter and junior Magley combined for a 1:46.69. The Cardinals ended the meet with a win in the 400 free relay after freshman Audrey Rodawig, Magley, senior Emilyi Wisolek and Richter finished in a season-best 3:31.04.

Miles came in second in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 57.51. Magley turned in a second-place performance in both the 50 free and 100 free with times of 24.38 and 53.15. Senior Emily Wisolek finished second in the 500 free with a time of 5:07.35.

Earning a season-best in the 1000 free was junior Leighann Mattson who touched the wall at 10:58.97. In the 100 free junior Jordan VanWinkle and freshman Jessica Extine swam season-bests with times of 54.09 and 55.67, respectively. Swimming in the exhibition heat, freshman Kara Berg turned in a season-best time of 57.11. Junior Kayla Hussey turned in her fastest 500 free of the season with a 5:25.03.

In diving, junior Jamie Denlinger led the way on the 1 meter with a mark of 219.60 for second place followed by sophomore Madie Zirzow at 219.45 who earned third. Freshmen Brittany Penn and Quinn Bixler were awarded scores of 189.75 and 178.80, respectively. Zirzow, Denlinger and Penn all earned season-best scores in the 3 meter at 237.08, 213.45 and 208.65 respectively. Bixler ended with a 192.60.

Ball State falls to 0-4 on the season while Miami improves to 4-1.

The team is back in action with the Doug Coers Invitational Friday, Nov. 22 – Saturday, Nov. 23.
