Vermont Sinks Siena

Vermont earned the top spot in 10 events and broke two pool records on its way to defeating Siena 132-90 in women's swimming and diving action Saturday from Forbush Natatorium.

Sophomore Christa Weaver took first place in the 100 freestyle and broke the pool record with a time of 51.99. She was also part of the relay squad, along with Courtney Gray, Sarah Mantz and Andie Blaser that swam the 200 free relay in 1:37.78 and also broke the Vermont pool record in the process.

Blaser earned two other individual wins on the day, posting first place finishes in both the 50 free (24.83) and 100 butterfly (59.07) for her first two individual victories on the season.

Senior Eva Wimberley had an impressive showing in the 100 breaststroke, registering the top time in the event (1:09.47). Wimberley also combined with Claire Rutscher, Gray and Weaver to earn first place in the 200 medley relay (1:49.33). Vermont relay squads finished 1-2-3 in the event to open up the meet.

The Catamounts showed their strength in the freestyle events throughout the afternoon, registering multiple victories in both the short and long distance races. Elena Melloni earned a victory in the 200 free (1:56.39), Ilsa Feierabend took the top spot in the 500 free (5:14.58) and Taylor Slone won the 1000 free (10:48.91).

Katie Adams and Emily Alexander also notched their first individual wins of the season. Adams placed first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.07, and Alexander swam the 100 backstroke in 1:00.77 to earn the top spot.

Sophomore Maggie Preston was Vermont's strongest diver on the day after posting the top score in both diving events. Preston earned the win in the 1-meter dive with a score of 210.97, and followed that up by registering the top score in the 3-meter diving (216.14).

The Catamounts return to the pool on Saturday (Nov. 9) when they host Maine at Forbush Natatorium at 12 p.m.
