Rider Men, Marist Women Win MAAC Titles

The Rider University men's and the Marist College women's swimming and diving teams claimed the league titles at the 2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Flickinger Athletic Center at Erie Community College.
 
The Rider men win back-to-back MAAC crowns with a total of 576 points, while Marist College registered 559.5 points for second place.  Canisius College came in third with 534.5 points, followed by Saint Peter's University (498.5), Bryant University (385), Loyola University Maryland (380), Fairfield University (239), Manhattan College (226), Iona College (196) and Niagara University (186.5).
 
On the women's side, Marist earned the conference crown for the fourth consecutive year and the 14th time overall as the Red Foxes tallied 801 points.  Rider finished in second place (608).  Loyola came in third with 443 points, followed by Canisius (391), Saint Peter's (346), Iona (336), Siena College (276), Fairfield (263), Niagara (256) and Manhattan (77).
 
Kate Conard of Marist and Kelly O'Connor of Rider were named Co-MAAC Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer, while Lovro Bilonic of Saint Peter's was named the MAAC Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer.  The MAAC Men's Most Outstanding Diver was Trevor Hiller from Rider, and the MAAC Women's Most Outstanding Diver was Chelaine Eliazar from Marist.  Saint Peter's Mohamed Abdelaal was named the Men's Swimming Coach of the Year, while Marist's Larry VanWagner was tabbed as the Women's Swimming Coach of the Year.  Melanie Bolstad from Marist was named the Diving Coach of the Year.
 
In the morning preliminaries, Lovro Bilonic from Saint Peter's reset the MAAC record in men's 200 breast, finishing in 1:57.59. Shawn Parkhurst from Canisius did the same in the evening session, setting the MAAC record in men's 200 fly, finishing in 1:48.16.
